CA HELP!!! recently moved to cali... SMOG CHECK!!!

im in torrance to get my family settled in and im going back to hawaii and possibly ship my fd out. problem is my fd has a ton of aftermarket mods that will kill my smog test.

my question is is there a shop in socal that can make my fd legal?

im running stock ports but single turbo, larger injectors, no cat, titanium exhaust, custom down pipe and waste gate.

i rather have my fd but i may be forced to trade it back in hawaii for a car that will pass smog. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

In the mean time, make a list of everything about your engine system that isn't stock and start shopping the for sale forums for their stock counterparts.

So stock turbos too?

This car may end up in the for sale section on here soon...

No one would pay for a 7 with everything on it for what its worth. I'm also a little soft when it comes to my cars. I've been through so much with that car to get it running and standing as it is now.

Well, CA isn't very understanding about mods. Basically they want you to return it to stock and then the only mods allowed are CARB approved. The exhaust is ok to modify past the cat as long as you don't break any noise laws (not part of your smog check).

That doesn't mean you can't get some things to slide by. I don't have the pre cat, but it still passes smog and as far as the smog test station can tell, it still looks stock.

Be sure to wear long socks, so when you go to the DMV you don't have to bend over quite so far to grab the top of them.

Tri-Point Engineering did mine for my previous owner, back in '97 when Kali went to its current smog check setup. Still has all the same equipment and passes every time.

I have basically brand new (6 months of use) smog parts for sale if interested. Parts are still like brand new.

won't pass california emissions and will need a main cat(at least) and stockish injectors with at least a powerFC to put the rats nest back together. you won't get anywhere in california with a stripped emissions system.

virtually everything has to be on the car that it came with and you are only allowed the front mount, the computer can be hidden but will need to be tuned to pass cleanly for the sniffer with the smog pump and catalyst on the car. it also doesn't need to be stock boost level, but single turbo... nope. that will need to go.

i have put together a handful of FDs to meet emissions standards in cali and you are very limited and will be hard pressed to have a car with over 300whp and still "legal", i use the term loosely because it will pass but the ECU, pump and injectors won't be emissions legal nor will the downpipe. some intakes like the Airnix Greddy are legal but have no CARB stamp, it is listed on the CARB website though under executive order.

wish california was more like nevada, you can do whatever you want so long as the emissions listed under the hood are still in place and the car passes the sniffer cleanly. more people would be prone to keeping a 'semblance of emissions versus going 'all or nothing' as california seems to want it.

about the best you can do is a set of BNR twins which is also a grey area modification under emissions standards along with intercooler upgrades. with all that you may squeak out 350whp for a ton of work and headache.

Put a 2x4 under the throttle pedal and it might pass.

It's all about location, location, location. About 40-50% of CA is non smog. Meaning a smog is only required at title transfer. Find a nice area to live in this beautiful state. And stay away from the big citys. I have been pulled over for speeding with open long tubes and the officer didn't even mention or look at the exhaust. They told me to slow down.
