CA help with making a petition

ok i want to make a petition to help out us smog or ref hindered car folk. i can pass smog flawlessly but the day will come for me when i can't and i know a lot of you guys are dealing with this communist, anti car modifying states BS as we speak. so im asking if any of you guys would sign said petition to flip this around. im also asking for some facts to why the current smog laws are BS as well as modification laws. this isn't going to be my only source for facts of course i will be doing plenty of research elsewhere to gain the facts for a good petition. it may work it may not but it is the voice we have and we need to make it heard. after reading some threads on BS ref tickets and people not being able to pass smog without having to shell out thousands of hard earned dollars to go back to crappy US stock specs it really pissed me off that we have to adhere to such crap with no say in the matter. im sick of the left dipshits in office making laws without having facts to back their claims up with(the right as well but commiefornia is a leftist state). the scumbags in office need to learn that they work for us. of course i would call for armed revolution to teach them that lesson but thats a whole other story LOL. sources for any facts/info given is greatly appreciated. old schoolers and new schoolers should not be the only ones who get to enjoy the road worry free. we middle folk love to drive as well

Check out SEMA Action Network and sign up for their newsletter by clicking the big red JOIN US button: SEMA Action Network (SAN)

I'd love to change things for the better here in California but this is a very hard battle to fight. For example, SEMA has been trying to make all cars 25 years old smog exempt for some time now but they keep losing. I think you're on the right track and I really wish everyone got involved with these matters. Don't take this the wrong way but I don't think a petition alone will put a dent on this issue.

Check out SEMA and even contact them to see how you can help the cause. Their newsletter usually has important info on what is being voted on and also has info on who you can call/contact regarding these issues. SEMA is located in Diamond Bar right off of the 60 fwy.

And be sure to write to, and vote against, the incumbent state assembly pols who are ultimately the ones letting the CARB be so over-the-top on subjects like this.

I'm all for clean air, but the current lot have let ideological zealotry ride roughshod over scientific significance & the law of diminishing returns. There are not enough older cars left in the state to make any difference in actual air quality at this point, so there's no valid rational argument against exemption for well-maintained enthusiasts' vehicles having a practical path to exemption. Zero-tolerance craziness rather than responsible and responsive government.

Maybe they should just let us buy carbon credits, like they've proposed for businesses? State could sure use the money, and it'd simplify life for those already 'buying' their certifications under the table - - whichimsurenobodyheredoes.

i make good use of my votes for sure. yeah politicians love using moronic ideology to change the tides in favor of their personal agendas. as soon as someone rejects it and counters with solid facts they implement they infamous "NO TOLERANCE" policies. its about time we implement the same no tolerance policies for incompetent politicians.

SEMA has been trying to use this argument as far as I can remember without much luck but I have a sneaky suspicion that lawmakers made up their minds after experiencing Sevenstock at roll in time

So you have it this was the last attempt in 2012 to change the law. It failed.

New Emission Law...SB 1224. Smog exemption for pre-'81 Vehicles

CA SB1224 | 2011-2012 | Regular Session | LegiScan

SB 1224 Senate Bill - Bill Analysis

I found this on another forum and thought I would share...

PLEASE READ NOW !!! HELP US OUT !!!!!
California Introduces Bill to Exempt pre-1981 Vehicles From Emissions Inspection Requirement

In 2004, legislation was enacted to repeal California’s rolling emissions-test exemption for vehicles 30 years old and older and replace it with a law requiring the lifetime testing of all 1976 and newer model-year vehicles. This year, a bill has been introduced in the California Senate (S.B. 1224) by Senator Doug LaMalfa (Senator.LaMalfa@senate.ca.gov ) to exempt all motor vehicles prior to the 1981 model year from the emissions inspection requirement. The bill will be considered in the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee on March 27, 2012.
We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately To Request Their Support for S.B. 1224

S.B. 1224 recognizes the minimal impact of pre-1981vehicles on emissions and air quality.
S.B. 1224 acknowledges that pre-1981 vehicles still constitute a minuscule portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reduction.
S.B. 1224 endorses the fact that pre-1981 vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven (a fraction of the miles each year as a new vehicle).
For years, legislators, regulators and stationary source polluters have felt the heat from failed efforts to meet air quality goals and have looked to older cars as a convenient scapegoat, using false data and inflated annual mileage assumptions to further their case. S.B. 1224 helps validate the truth. The old car hobby should not continue to carry the burden of past mistakes!

DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the California Senate Transportation and Housing Committee immediately to request their support of S.B. 1224. Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

I admire your enthusiasm but good luck finding a politician to back this, let alone several in order to pass it into law. I think you're better off asking Jay Leno and Tim Allen to be your spokesmen and do some late night commercials for this on Nick at Night.

the people appointed to CARB and law makers of smog laws in California are not car enthusiast to give a damn. Their job is to reduce air pollution and maintain air quality for California. I'm not 100% sure on this, so don't hold it against me, but I bet you the car industry has someone barking up these people's panties to find way to sell more newer cars that's suppose to be green towards the environment. So they'll think of ways to get rid of all the old cars so you'll be force to buy a new car.

More older cars on the road just means, less need to buy newer cars. = auto industry less profit

GL, before arnold left the office, he signed a bill that will require annual test for all post 75 cars or beginning 76. And based on reliable sources, it may start next year. So keep me in mind when your rx-7 doesnt pass as i have a free towing service for junk rx-7s
