is having AT HOME service an absurd idea???

im in a pickle right now where i want to get my motor thats been latent for 3 years a diagnostic and possibly a rebuild but i want to pay someone to do this at my home garage with me

1. because i want to work on the car with my mechanic and learn the ins and outs of my rotary engine and turbo system

2. i dont want to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars flat bedding my car to mechanics for estimates and what not

3. i dont want to leave my car that will have fresh paint sitting forever while mechanics take their time in some dumpy shop far away from my house to get all dusty and dinged up or even to impose liabilty on them for taking care of it

i feel like after talking to a lot of mechanics they seem very busy, unintrested in anything unless its very convenient, and will charge whatever they feel like unless you're personally friends with them. and after all that take their time doing the work... whats your two cents? maybe i need to make some friends that are rotary gurus or something

Mechanics that make housecalls would be a brilliant business model, but I expect the costs involved, coupled with the lack of access to some real time-saver tools (lift, hoist, bench tools, large clean well-lighted workspace) would make it a pretty expensive deal.

It would be a neat business to be in, though; equip a panel van with mechanics' tools and make housecall repairs. Appliance and HVAC guys do it, why not mechanics?

Liability insurance might be a biatch, tho.

I did a house call for a RSX Type S clutch job before, ill never do it again. Due to lack space on customer garage and lack of lighting.

I want pizza that doesn't get soggy before the last slice but that ain't happenin either.

You basically want to be tutored by a mechanic at your house and do some work yourself to save money and learn. It's called a buddy.

Mechanics want to make money at their garage, not spend time and money at someone elses. Sorry to be so blunt but watch the rebuild videos and do it yourself or drop the motor off at a mechanic's shop.

What exactly do you need done? That may help you find someone on the forum that can help you out for a great price. Working at someones house may have too many risks. Someone from the household can hurt themselves (ie kids running around grabbing stuff) or the mechanic can be hurt because of someones dog getting free and biting them or they can get held up if its a bad neighborhood.

Having said that, mobile mechanics do exist but I've usually seem them for regular cars and not rotary specific. I've done mobile mechanic work in the past when I used to help a friend of mine work on AE86s almost 10 years ago. It wasnt the best experience some times because we had to deal with traffic, and sub par working conditions.

with all that being said, theres no kids dogs gangsters in my house and i bet you drive fast ill devise a way to get you pizza that wont get soggy at the last slice if you come over and help me

maybe i'll post ads here on the forum at some point

zerox7 looks like candidate 1 at this point. anyone else that wants to get in on it is more than welcome hahah

as far as it being a brilliant business model i have to agree, i know of 4 rotary cars that need rebuilds within walking distance from my house!

With all the tasty cheese, sauce, and toppings it's gonna get soggy while it sits!!!

I don't do the turbo thing or the EFI thing, so can't help with that but can tell you using a parts washer with hot water and a gallon of Purple Cleaner makes the engine cleaning a helluva lot faster. Just bought the 20 gallon one from Harbor Freight for $63 on sale plus 20%off coupon!

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94702

Start with a compression test. And take the oil filter off and pour some oil down the threaded tube the filter screws onto. It'll feed the bearings directly. After sitting for 3 years the'll be dry.

Why don't you go with Lucky 7? They helped me at home before, they also have a good sized shop where you can take your car.

I posted a thread for help a while ago and Zerox7 ended up helping me.

If your looking for a body shop in el monte theres DTM Auto Body, the place where i use to work we get all our cars painted there. There expensive but the quality is really good. Or another we use to work with is Platinum VIP also expensive but really good quality.

I use to work at Asuka Design in Long Beach.

They painted all our project cars 350z,rx7,porsche,m3
We mold the body kit on and they do the rest smoothing everything out and a full paint job.
Here are some pictures of our shop car that DTM painted.
