Good Dealership in San Diego
Hi, I'm getting an 93' FD down in San Diego, but the guy only wants the compression test run at a dealer. I know from reading on the board that dealers are notoriously bad for service, but I would like to ask if anyone knows a reliable Dealership in San Diego that I could have the guy go to to have the test done. Also I was how much a compression test costs on average at a dealership.
Thanks for your time,
Josh

I almost knocked out one of their service reps because we had an incident. Too long to get into it. But they are a bunch of thieves and liars.
Choose another dealer.

That doesn't sound to good, the guy is set on that dealership. I wanted him to bring it to seth but he doesn't trust non-dealer which is funny since they are unreliable from what I heard.

I had my turbos rebuilt there. Replaced some hoses I asked them to do a boost test too. The warranty company paid an ASSFULL for that BTW.
Turbos were still bad, had to replace them within a week.
On the second set of new turbos:They claimed they saw ten psi... a couple of weeks later I installed a boost gauge 6 psi??? Took it back to them and they claimed that it was ten when it left the dealership. "really? because the car never got any slower (6 psi VS 10 psi is a huge difference) They blamed it on the boost gauge installation, right... The fact is they never did a boost check. Even though they were paid for one, but it was a couple weeks later and somelse had gotten under the hood (me). So all in all they did have a defense but they knew they were full of ****.
Nevermind that is where I bought the car from... You think they would want re-ocurring customers.
Honestly IMO I say **** this guy. YOU are the one buying the car. It's you that has to be satisfied with the results. BTW You should be paying for the compression test not him, so it's your call on where to take it (reasonably of course). If he only wants to take it to that dealer then maybe he knows someone there.

That's quite possible. He seems quite set on dealer, though the reason he gives is that he feels anywhere else is unreliable. I guess I should demand it be taken somewhere else. BTW I should be getting around ~8.5 kg/m^3 right?

**** his reasons you are the one buying the car right? You take it to a shop you feel comfortable with, it's gonna be YOUR CAR. FD's are not very rare here in so cal so I'd say just screw this guy and go somewhere else if he is not willing to work with you on this.
8.5 yeah that sounds good. Besides the shop wopuld tell whats acceptable and whats not.

After getting the compression test done, the guy gave me 4 #'s. Isn't there suppose to be 6? He supposedly had it done at the dealer.
From what I've read this is what I should be getting in terms of results:
He said:
I'm not quite sure what I'm suppose to make of this.
Thanks for your help,
Josh
From what I've read this is what I should be getting in terms of results:
Compression test results are reported as six numbers: 3 per rotor. (This is not the same as the compression ratio). Higher, more equal numbers are best. The original Mazda specs dictate 8.5+ kg/cm² as new (121+ psi), with 6.0 kg/cm² (85 psi, 690kpa) being minimum acceptable. Maximum difference should be 1.5 kg/cm² (21 psi, 150kPa) from the highest to lowest value. It is important this test is carried out using proper equipment and under the correct conditions for rpm and engine temperature. Mazda dealers are generally reliable for performing this test, so long as they follow the procedures precisely.
No: engine only has four sparkplugs were are you geting this info. Are you sure you know what your buying? This is not a reguler car. if your just read about thing on line and getting wrong info.

Especially with #'s 3 & 4. If those numbers are correct the second rotor is need of a rebuild or at least has heavy carbon deposits. The car is mostly stock though, only 39k miles, wonder if it got thrashed.

Oh well. The guy screwed me. After running the wrong compression test. He ups and decides to sell the car to some other guys that came along despite me having talked to him for some time about the car and offering a deposit. Not only that, he's not willing to refund my compression test money.
one guy you just shouldn't deal with. ******* ++.

It sounds to me that his engine was blown and did/is/was trying to scam people.

I saw the add... I've never saw this car in san diego in my life. So its nobody we know and he's not on the boards. Either way.. sucks that you had to deal with this Josh.. but like meiogirl says.. I too think its a blessing in disguise. Look around for another FD and forget about that one... there are too many issues with that one.
