Funny gear smell

guys, I've tried searching the thread on funny smelling gear or fuel smell in the car when the motor is running hot, but did not find a specific thread.

SOOOOO.. my question/problem is that, when I'm driving the motor...say on the free way. then parking it.. i can smell a strong coolant burning aroma/oder. Added more coolant and the smell was not as strong but still there.. Also my gear makes a watery spoiling nice from gear to gear ( its a short shifter) also where the smell is coming from. ANY IDEA what the source of this problem is? THANKS GUYS.

Yea, you own a RX7. The smells were a factory option.

Running hot plus burning coolant smell = possible water seal issue, or external leak onto exhaust from manifold gasket o-rings.
Attempt to locate external teak, and fix. Or try alumaseal, or rebuild.

Gear oil smell from shifter = inner shift boot cracking from age. Replace it, or stitch it and coat with silicone to get a little more life out of it.

Clean the trans, drive it, find the leak dripping on the clean trans. You may be lucky it could just be a filler or drain plug.

Do the same thing with the engine. Cleanit, look for leak.
