Engine Fire
So, I'm drving to school today in my FD. Nice day. Then I see a lot of smoke coming outta the xhaust and hood. I immediately pull it over (luckily I wasn't on the 405). And to my horrified suprise... FIRE
... I literally had images of the whole thing going up in one big fireball like one of those die hard movies.
I got the fire out once I realized that the turbo housing blanket was really what was on fire. I yanked it out and tossed it on the sidewalk. No more flames in the engine.
After it cooled down and I regained my composure, I braced myself for the damage. The good news is that only a few vacuum caps and a coolent sensor wire got melted. As the fire was contained in the turbo-area (in fact it looked only to be directly ON TOP of the turbo exh housing), there's not many meltable parts there, it was perhaps the best place you have one.
The culprit: As far as I can tell it looks like the turbo shat up so much oil that it caught on fire. It'd been leaking a little bit recently and I figured it'd last another month or so... but alas no go. I disconnected the oil lines to the turbo, capped them with a 1/4 steel plug, unhooked the IC cold side from the elbow and drove the FD home without problems. So the turbo is definately toast now.
Anyone got a good single turbo for sale?

I appreciate the encouraging words. Especially from Jones. :p
Ordered an aspec GT3574 yesterday and it should be here sometime in the near future. Sean said it would get shipped out yesterday. I'm thinking 5 business days from Chicago to LA. So maybe before Thanksgiving.
Now if I can figure out how to get the old turbo off. I hope it doesn't involve pulling the exhaust manifold, too. I can do it but I'm pretty lazy. Maybe jones would do it for 5.50/hour since that's slightly more than she's making being a "musician".
