does California really suck this much?

Alright i moved out here to Long Beach recently and after a short period with no Rx-7 i am buying an 89 TurboII and am quite excited. I looked around and couldnt find too much help and i am curious as to what i can do to this car and keep it legal. Now i know a lot of parts arent "CARB exempt" but HOW illegal are they? Gray area or stright up youre getting pulled over? I was wanting the RB turbo back system but as stated EVERYWHERE, its illegal in Cali. I am going to attempt to get 300hp and now a guy i spoke to at Mazdatrix said he didnt think thatd be possible while keeping it street legal. Suggestions anyone?
Also, can anyone give me a quick run-rown of what isnt legal around here? FMIC? intake? exhaust? aftermarket turbos? anything?
THANKS a lot guys............

Pretty much, anything you do to it before the cat is illegal. Not to much you can do while keeping it street legal.. not sure if anyone makes any IC that are carb legal. But its not to bad really.. I know a few people with full turbo back, 60-1, FMIC pushing mid 300s to the wheels and never have problem with law enforcement.. granted the car looks abolulte stock except for aftermark wheels.

Now if look like these honda guys with big fart can, and a 10" tach sticking out you car you might have a problem.

And you can always keep your stock stuff in case you need to switch it out for inspection.

But keeping abosulute street legal.. is to keep it stock.

If you want a high power car.. buy something pre 75 with smog except status... thats what I did with my Agresive street port, 13bt turbo rx-2.. more power then you would ever want.

So tell him to fight it, they can't give you a ticket for a violation on private property, unless the owner says you're trespassing/not allowed there/makes a complaint.

You won't pass with the turbo back, as it elimants the cat.. and it stinks pretty bad then also.. you could add a high flow cat in the pipe some where after the down pipe, should pass sniffer, althogh visual will depend if the test operator catchs the down pipe.. most don't notice.. unless it all bling bling.

Wrong.

It depends on the parking lot. It's not as cut and dry as you think.

Either way you are going to have a pretty hard time getting the car smogged, even though it is fully stock. My FD wouldn't even pass smog with it being all stock. But oh well, that doesn't stop me from selling it.

Wow I never heard that before. I thought that you just didn't have to smog a new car for the first 5 years but then after that you would have to smog every two year. If that's true I think I will register my car to my aunts address

But ya Cali sucks for smog control just keep all of your stock parts for when you have to smog or if you are ever sent to a State Referee for exhaust violations.

Put a LS1 in it

I passed the engine swap at the BAR last week, so now my FD is a 2002 Camaro in the eyes of CA... I dont ever have to worry about smog, and will be well over 400rwhp, 500 on the spray.

Yes, Cali sucks that much and more as far as SMOG **** is concerned!! That's why I'm glad my 7 is registered on the East Coast where ther eis no emissions testing.

Look, there is a bit out there that is carb legal.

Greddy FMIC
K&N FIDK - that is a cold air intake, but costs $180.00
MSD ignitions 6a
Turbo Swap. - direct bolt on.

No one will know what size injectors you are using. You can hide all the elctronics, Electronic Boost Gauge, ECU Computer..... none of them are CARB complient.

THere will be more and more, but it will cost, MORE!

Aftermarket Intercoolers are legal only if used with STOCK turbo.

Cali sucks. Deal with it.
