Angry Damn!!! Ref Ticket Today!

damn police!! this is how it starts, he pulls me over saying i was "speeding". Ok, whatever I said to myself, I'll just go to class and get signed off. But then he started adding more ****, like i have tinted tail lights(wtf), no front plate, exhaust is too loud and then he decides to pop my freakin hood!!! All I have is an intake and bov under there but he starts naming parts just cuz, like pcv, etc. I was like "PCV!!" wtf!!!! then he shows me some freakin binder showing that he knows hella stuff about cars. the binder was showing pics of fixed up honda's with arrows pointing toward parts with names on it. bottom line he left me with a emission test with a ref and fix it ticket for the front plate. With his exact words "thats hell of a deal of what I just gave you".

man, I'm not sure if I want to spend $300-$400 for this ****. I actually put everything back to stock tonight and made an appointment with the ref tomorrow morning. I passed smog in april, but I do still have the sard bov. .

dvd, yup thats me. bright blue fd. (previous owner painted it ) I got pulled over on 101 south, right by the airport.

money, I would fight it and he did say he doesn't show to these things but if he ever decides to go he would use the pics that he took against me.

Question: so if the ref fails me, I can still just pay the ticket and pretend like it never happened?

I think in some cases, you could just pay the ticket all together without having to go to ref. You may want to call the court to confirm. Gotta pay to play.

Becase a good 60 - 70 percent of anything/everything car related is here in California? And Most parts these days are CARB Compliant?

Return it to stock, and tell the judge that is how it was when you got pulled over. Obviously the cop was not familiar with the rotary engine.

And your tail lights are fine AS LONG AS you have white reverse lights and red stop lights.
A red bulb through tint is okay for brakes, but your reverse light may not have any tint in front of it.

Wow! what the hell does the boost gauge have to do with emissions? What tin the future don't let an officer pop your hood. Kids... It might get ugly but remain polite.Rig your hood so it can only be opened by you and claim that the latch just broke, basically try another way out other than "no", because then it becomes a pissing match between you and the officer. That's never fun. Bottom line you don't have to consent to a search, and there's gotta be a real reason to tow your car. Not consenting is not it either.

There's no way I am ever consenting to a search. I've denied them in the past and will continue to do in the future. But I've gotten smarter in my old age . My hood is rigged to be only opened by me (so I never have to say no) and two: Here at work I pay $11a month for legal protection. The only reason I got it is to protect myself from incidents involving officers. Basically I have a legal representation 24/7. They cover just about anything except drunk driving and legal matters pertaining to my job. So in the future if an officer starts to get nasty and threatens to tow my car (as they always threaten to) I'll be like "here talk to my lawyer biatch!!!". Well ok I'll be polite about it but the outcome will be the same.

"And your tail lights are fine AS LONG AS you have white reverse lights and red stop lights.

A red bulb through tint is okay for brakes, but your reverse light may not have any tint in front of it.

Not quite. You've met the "must emit" red light requirement of stop and tail lights. But you still have to meet the reflector requirement:

Reflectors on Rear
24607. Every vehicle subject to registration under this code shall at all times be equipped with red reflectors mounted on the rear as follows:

(a) Every vehicle shall be equipped with at least one reflector so maintained as to be plainly visible at night from all distances within 350 to 100 feet from the vehicle when directly in front of the lawful upper headlamp beams.

(b) Every vehicle, other than a motorcycle or a low-speed vehicle , manufactured and first registered on or after January 1, 1965, shall be equipped with at least two reflectors meeting the visibility requirements of subdivision (a), except that trailers and semitrailers manufactured after July 23, 1973, that are less than 30 inches wide, may be equipped with one reflector which shall be mounted at or near the vertical centerline of the trailer. If the vehicle is equipped with two reflectors, they shall be mounted as specified in subdivision (d).

(c) Every motortruck having an unladen weight of more than 5,000 pounds, every trailer coach, every camp trailer, every vehicle, or vehicle at the end of a combination of vehicles, subject to subdivision (a) of Section 22406, and every vehicle 80 or more inches in width manufactured on or after January 1, 1969, shall be equipped with at least two reflectors maintained so as to be plainly visible at night from all distances within 600 feet to 100 feet from the vehicle when directly in front of lawful upper headlamp beams.

(d) When more than one reflector is required, at least one shall be mounted at the left side and one at the right side, respectively, at the same level. Required reflectors shall be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches, except that a tow truck, in addition to being equipped with the required reflectors, may also be equipped with two reflectors which may be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than the maximum allowable vehicle height and as far forward as the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in the rearmost position. Additional reflectors of a type meeting requirements established by the department may be mounted at any height.

(e) Reflectors on truck tractors may be mounted on the rear of the cab. Any reflector installed on a vehicle as part of its original equipment prior to January 1, 1941, need not meet the requirements of the department provided it meets the visibility requirements of subdivision (a).

(f) Area reflectorizing material may be used in lieu of the reflectors required or permitted in subdivisions (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e), provided each installation is of sufficient size to meet the photometric requirement for those reflectors.

Most cars don't have supplimental red reflectors, so red tails are what makes those cars legal. However, if you notice, cars that come stock with non-red tails (such as the Lexus SUV's) have two red reflectors imbeded on their rear bumper.

So if you have tinted tails (like I do), just go to Pep Boys and buy a couple of those red reflector license plate nuts and mount them. You are THEN technically legal which is all you need to be to get that part of the ticket signed off. If you have S5 tails, just be careful NOT to also tint the red reflectors imbedded at the bottom of the tail light assembly so you remain legal. That is the only reason I put S5 tails on my S4 TurboVert.

As to tint on the reverse lights being an issue, thats the first I've ever heard of that.

Per the CA VC:

Backup Lamps
24606. (a) Every motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, of a type subject to registration and manufactured on and after January 1, 1969, shall be equipped with one or more backup lamps either separately or in combination with another lamp. Any vehicle may be equipped with backup lamps.

(b) Backup lamps shall be so directed as to project a white light illuminating the highway to the rear of the vehicle for a distance not to exceed 75 feet. A backup lamp may project incidental red, amber, or white light through reflectors or lenses that are adjacent or close to, or a part of, the lamp assembly.

BIG difference between "reflect" and "project". Tint on the reverse light lense by itself shouldn't be an issue as the light being "projected" is just a slightly different shade of white. It's still white. There are a hundred different shade of white. Just go to any paint department at any hardward store.

Cops are turning into ****'s!

My friend got pulled over in his Z, and the cop said pop your hood. My friend said politely, officer, sry I want to excerise my rights and not pop the hood. Officer looked at him and said you have 5 seconds to pop the hood before I tear the car apart and take you to jail..... We were 16 so we popped the hood and shut our mouths until the cop left giving us a tint ticket.
