I can do either or so it doesn't affect me. As for the dyno, I could do eddy current or inertial load. most inertial load is around 4000lbs drum so that's more than plenty to dial in a/f ratio. The only advantage of eddy current is that you can hold the rpm and vary the load at that rpm. The problem is that it heats up the car way faster than the inertial load dyno.

If we're doing on the street, all tuning (WOT) pull will be done in 4th gear just in case some of you were wondering. There's noway that you can accurately set the map properly in 3rd or 2nd gear. If I could, I prefer doing it in 5th but the amount of heat will be way too great and the speed will be way too high to be possible.

When I was in Vancouver last weekend, the eddy current dyno was accidently added preload (10,000lbs). The dyno guys were suprised that the engine didn't blow up with that much load on it because it took us 20secs to make a pull. So in theory, the most reliable tuning is done with the most load posslbe w/o stressing the engine.

Can someone who is running this event please post final details so as to allow for proper planning. I'd like to know what we will be paying, (what RR&R finally agreed to $) deposit needed and address as well as what we'll be receiving for our cost. I realise that that info was stated initially, but there's way too much talk flying around and no solid answers. Thank you,

~Mike

Do you guys mind an extra there just to come check out some rides? I'm planning on purchasing an FD in the future and just wanna check out the rides. I would be in a 350z but if I can get rid of it, an FD is in my future sooner.

there has been a lot of going back and forth about which type of dyno is better and speculation about which shop would be ideal, i think someone should jump in and set the record straight and put all the facts on the table...kkthx!!!!!!

Can steve do this for me in one session.

1.) Tune for Pump only
2.) Tune for Pump + Methanol (8+ and up to 21psi)
3.) Tune for C16 only at 25psi, maybe 30psi.

I would like all 3 tunes done. This way if methanol system shuts off, i can use pump only. And if I go to the track, I can use C16 since methanol isn't permitted for NHRA qualifications, etc.

I have a datalogit so i can have 3 seperate maps. Of course, I'll pay for dyno time.

I would love to come out, but my Turbo kit from A-spec was supposed to ship on March 17th and I still have yet to hear from then on when it actually will ship. As soon as I get it I can have the car running the next day, but I have no idea when I will actually get the kit.

This is what is preventing me from signing up. I would like to do it on Friday if that is possible but I can't commit until I have a tracking number and know my car's components are going to be here by that date.

Please Send In Your Deposits

I talked (emailed) with Steve yesterday and he needs everybody to send in their deposits ASAP!!! To lock in your spot, and to make sure he's got enough to come out. I checked the rotaryx page and it looks like 11 have signed up so far. We need to make sure every gets us the deposit so we know for sure who is coming and whether or not we need to start on friday if we get more than 12.

So far, I have recieved a check from Zack S. and me of coarse. If some are in the mail, relax. If not, get those deposits in! Checks or money orders made out to Steve Kan sent to:

A. Spearmon
231 West Olive St. #6
Inglewood CA 90301

Below is the message from Steve:

Just make sure that everyone is aware that they need to send a deposit to secure their spots. Basically, depending upon how many people you have that needs tuning will drive the amount of days I need to stay there. All this needs to be planned ahead of time. I don't want to stay there for 2 days if you have 15people sign up. I can only do about 5-6 a day.

Basically what I needed you to do is to let everyone know that if you don't receive any deposits by the deadline, their name will be dropped and people who are on standby will get the dibs on the tuning.

Please let me know how many are confirm so that I can booked my flight there.

Shortfuse, deposit has to be received a week prior to tuning. (22nd) this is what he stated in the auction. If it isn't received by then, it'll be dropped. You'd want to mail it out no later than the 19th.

Shortfuse, I can send your deposit in for you... if you can get me back at the session. That's if you can make it.

Slopoke - let me know if this is ok, cause if he doesn't show.. I'd like that deposit refunded to me. Cool?

Also, did you find out about my tuning questions?

Thanks

Actually, that's not correct. I need a confirmation on the number of days I stay 3 weeks ahead of time to book my flight. anything less than 21days lead time will cost $$$$ on plane tickets.. I have mentioned to scott that the way it was setup was wrong on the auction.

Darren,
Technically this would consider three different tuning session requesting 3 different maps for three different setups. It wouldn't be fair for anyone else when they're spending the same amount of money for one map.

If I charge you the same price as everyone else, someone could come to me with three different turbos ready to install on to their car and request 3 different maps for each turbo setup.

Unfortunately, your request will not work for the type of tuning I'm offering. If you wanted to tune on pump gas and then turn the boost up a little for race gas, I can bend the rule a little and do that but having 3 different maps optimized for each configuration would not be fair and feasible for everyone.

If you insist on having 3 separate maps, I could only do it by hourly rate. This will be fair for you and me and everyone else who needs tuning. If I have to guess the amount of time it takes to do all three maps, I would say around 5 hrs @$150/hr.

Steve,

5 hours at $150 an hour is a fair price if it includes dyno time. If it were 5 hours ($750, plus $375 for dyno time) then I'd be SOL.

Perhaps RRR can work something out, and we can do all 3. I'd really like all 3 done. Otherwise I might have to stick to pump only for the tuning session.

LMK
THanks

Well I guess this puts me out of this tuning session. I can't put a deposit down on a tuning session when my car is still sitting in pieces. A-spec has told me that my kit is sitting waiting for the manifold and dp to come back from ceramic coating...but they have been saying this for 4 weeks, so who knows when I will get it.

I am pretty bummed. I was supposed to have this turbo kit before the march 18th tuning session here in phoenix. Here it is April and I am still without a turbo....the money has been gone from my account for over a month, they dont seem to have any trouble taking the money.

Needless to say I am a little frustrated!

I will only send in a non-refundable deposit as soon as I know if he will be out here on Friday to tune since that is the only day I can do it. I am definately in if he is here on Friday and will get the deposit out immediately upon hearing so.
