Does anyone know how hard it is for a 88 turbo to pass cali smog tests and how much worst does it get when you wanna upgrade the exhaust and fuel systems? or you just pretty much cant mess with it? Im just asking Cuz i live in GA right now and i plan on moving back to cali someday and i was wonding if i had a chance on passing smog after i upgrade my car??? thanks for your help

you will most likely fail the visual inspection. california is very strict on these type of things, so if you're planning to do a "legal" smog inspection it pretty much has to be 100% bone stock.

Youll only fail a visual if youve messed with stuff under the hood. Other than that, do a tune up, and thats pretty much your best chance without trying to fix anything large.

^ Word. Had a friend get pulled over by a street racing specialist out in ontario one night...cop said he had an unmodified naturally aspirated 4 cylinder with an intake on it...he was driving a turbo 2.

It doesn't have to be bone stock at all. You just need to make sure your emissions systems are intact. Most technicians don't know what they're looking at, so as long as it's looks stock-like you'll be fine.

mine passed CA smog with just one main cat and a custom intake setup, you can always swap out parts every 2 years.
