Buying a car

I'm going to be buying a car and storing it in my friends backyard/lot.

So whats the rules to doing this, my dad said I'd need to register/insure it just to drive it to his house from where I baught it........I dont have a license yet so I wont be driving it anyhow, but he said I will need to get a non operational thing from the dmv so they know its not in use while in his yard.

is this bs true?

You may still need to register it. If you're late on the reg, they can deduct from your salary. That's if it's already registered and the registration expires. Either way, do your research to see what actually appies to your specific case. Like Roy said, get to reading.
