Posted up a bunch of detailed suggestions that I thought might help this go down smoothly (you know time, where to park etc), then thought better of it. This is Vipers meet so I'm just gonna send him what I wrote and let him be ringleader...

OK, cool. I just talked to Vipers who elected me his partner in crime to plan this sucker. Maybe engineers just like getting into the details. Anyways, this is still totally open for suggestions but here's what I'm thinking...

So here's a link to a map of Bolsa:

The main entrance is in the middle of the beach where the map marks "B". If we're trying to get cars near each other I suggest we drive a ways north (R turn after you enter). There are bunch of parking lots one after the other. I humbly suggest that everyone park toward the north half of the 5th lot. Hopefully that'll be far enough in that we can get some cars side by side, but not screw us if it turns out you can get in from the north too (I'm not sure). There's some nominal parking fee but I seem to remember it's not too bad.

-I can bring all the required paper goods for everyone as I have a ton of leftovers for another event. I'll also pack a mini BBQ and the grating from my weber we can cook over the fire.

-That means everyone else has to bring wood, food, and drinks. Ideally if everyone brings some of all three we'd be good to go. Hell, if every car that showed had one bundle of wood we could have a proper bonfire come dusk. I'd think folks would want to bring serving/cooking utensiles for whatever food you have too.

-For time I'm thinking everyone shows up at 12:30 and we go till a bit after dark If you're coming in a caravan just time it out accordingly.

-I doubt we'll have a problem with fire pits at this time of year but if someone wants to get there early that'd be rad too. Any volunteers (aka --> OilCooler???)

-Anyone have any good landmarks they could bring (a gaudy umbrella or something) to help find each other at the pit? I'm rocking bleached blonde hair post Halloween so I should pretty easy to find.

Cheers y'all,
Joel

PS I'll try to get this posted at rx8club and socalevo.net... Feel free to cross post other forums as I'm game for whatever.

ok, we are going to head out from ontario @ 1pm.....and get to the beach around 2pm.... so for those who will be going straight to the beach.. id say 2:30'ish so that way we are already there and you'll be able to find our cars parked......

since this will be a potluck...im gonna start a list of who is going, and what you will be bringing.... if possible, some sort of food, wood, and drink will be great..if not, one of the above is fine....

1. vipers ---------Potato salad, wood, 2 12 packs of soda

I think I'll still aim a little earlier to be sure we can get a pit. Vipers called it out though. 2:00 pm start time at Bolsa. See map above for where I'll be parked.

About 3x whatever you can personally eat... I vote sausage or polish dogs myself.

Oil cooler, I got your PM... I'm right with you in thinking the northern part of the beach is the place to be: park as close to the far edge of the 5th lot as you can(see pic above).

Quantities... Everyone should be bringing something so if you bring about three times what you can eat there should be tons of options. If all I was having was dogs I could put down 3-4 so I'd probably grab a ten pack or so with buns and condiments to match. However, If you've never tried making hot dogs with polish sausage, man you're missing out. It's awesome... They come as a big horseshoe shape so you'd probably want two of those to make 10-12 dogs with..

I guess I personally tend to reach for slightly more diverse than plain dogs, that's all. I like rocking some marinated tri-tip, carne asada, italian spiced sausage, teriyaki chicken. You know, go crazy with it and try to outdo the other guys. If we're driving this far we might as well go big with the food.

What can I say, I guess I'm a borderline foody when it come to BBQ... None of my friends seem to complain when I'm cooking though!

Real wood is preferable as it lets us cook over it. If you've got some wax/sawdust log things on standby you can throw a couple in for lounging by, but I wouldn't go as far as to buy any.

I had to remove myself. My master cylinder is gone. Today the brake pedal was to the floor all of a sudden! So Saturday is now a repair day. Sorry!

You can never have too much wood (unless it's been more than 4 hours, then you call your doctor). Side dishes/desserts are looking a bit in short supply so that would be a good thought as well.

hamburgers buns
12 layer dip

Huntington Beach is predicting 85 degrees and sunny for Saturday. Should be perfect for some SoCal winter beach action!!! Why the heck do you think we put up with the traffic and smog? Time to capitalize on it.
