Yeah, i would never want to become a mechanic.
Gross and dirty ALL the time.
Not very good pay. Not bad, but not good enough.
Constantly under other peoples hot cars in the heat.
People always bitching about the price of labor and parts, even when you give them deals.
Always dealing with other peoples head aches.
I love working on my car, because its a great hobby, i would get burned out working on cressidas and geos, and hondas, and bull ****.
Also, you might try to pick up an apprenticeship with a shop or some mechanic for a summer job. see how you like it before you devote a ton of money to a school...
being a mechanic isnt all installing carbon fiber and turbos on engines you can eat off.

Me and White charisma are techs and take it from us you dont want to do this. Business is going downhill and I'm already looking at other alternatives. But to answer your questions UTI in rancho, wyotech in long beach are private schools. Just depends what company you're leaning towards. But none are in your area. You'd have to move down.

There isn't much money in the business unless you've been doing it for quite some time or a master tech. With the economy the way it is, people only want oil changes and skimp on services. I went to a Community college, that took two years, got my toyota certification, a few ase's and the pay still bites. Its a cool job while we're young, but in the long run I dont see myself working this hard for this kind of money.
Yeah I love wrenching on my cars and even friends for a hobby. But doing it on the daily isn't so much fun.

I have a friend, who is 20. He works for the Toyota stealership as an auto mechanic there and does sidejobs for friend's and **** on his days off. He currenty owns an FC and has been making payments on a 02/03 Audi A4??? for a couple years now. I'd imagine he's close to paying it off. Also, he already has plans with his father to buy a house.
Now tell me that's not bank.
Just keep learning.
For a job/career it all comes down to the balance of you having fun and the pay.
OP: google is yore friend keyword: UTI or taht motorcycle school forgot the name.
wow a frist serious post from me...can it be???

To each their own. I woudln't mind coming home everyday dirty, as a matter of fact my employers ask me to get dirty, so always come home in a dirty shirt, just gotta take good showers.

bullshit. wrenching will get old and bills will accumulate, sooner or later arthritis will kick in and that will be the end. doing sidejobs is not a reliable source of income either.

That's plain a simple from wacky. Most of the older techs experience back pains and live check to check. But one of the positive things about the job is the feeling of accomplishment when you solve a problem no one else can figure out or you've been on it for a few hours.

I forget to mention too that I did residential and light commercial HVACR install and tech before. A 12+ hours a day and 6 days a week work schedule got old pretty fast. Good pay and such but I cant picture myself doing this **** forever.

well, lets check on him in 5 years. Lets see if he becomes one of those people like in riverside. You know the type, start making good money, buys a nice house for a decent price. then the ecomony goes to crap, he loses his job, cant afford to drive to work and make car payments along side with house payments and all the other fee's associated with home ownership. Ends up taking a bath and moving back in with mom and dad because he was making "bank" when he was 20....
Now tell me if that's "bank"

well at least if people know and have known you as a honest person and you become a honest mechanic most likely people would take there car to you not the dealership or a shop. i like the money made on the side. mmm.. thanks for all of your perspective on it...
