Status Update

Car is still at RRR. Water injection is installed. We were stalled a bit because of injector issues that was completely my fault. I purchased a used secondary fuel rail with 2 1680 injectors last year (Feb 2013). When I went to RC to get them cleaned they told me one of them was leaking so I purchased a new one from RC. I asked them to match and they said they did. Unknown to me is that they sold me 1600 instead of 1680. RRR told me this when they saw this. I went back to RC in hoping I can purchase another 1600 except it's discontinued. And as all of you know Bosch also discontinued their 1680s. I finally found Bosch copy 1680s and had to wait for about a week.

As my last check with RRR on Thursday everything is going well. They are also re-routing my oil cooler lines. And they purchased two gauges (which I guess they get the impression I wanted but I was going to purchase on my own... ohwell some communication issues there. Battery was relocated to rear storage bin. I can honest said so far they have done a excellent job. The cost went way over what I estimated but that's due to increase amount of activity that I added. However, I kind of wish these additions were bit more formal (partly my fault for not asking) so I know exactly how much increase on cost.

They told me everything should be done by Monday and Nelson should have time on Tuesday to tune. Stay tuned.

Car is still there. They found the manifold was cracked (most likely due to off course trip last year) so they were nice enough to find me a replacement they had in the shop and ordered set of rebuild turbos. They also experienced problems with the Aquamist controller (they repair / replace this issue at their cost). When the car finally went on the dyno they output wasn't great (265 WHP) but when I drove the car it felt great. There is a little bit of delay at low end due to conversion to non-seg turbos. When I drove the car most of the time it looks like it ran pretty rich (11.3 - 1) ratio which leds me to believe Nelson did a very safe tune instead of exploring more HP which I guess is what I told him. I wanted reliability at the track. They are doing final touch ups. They found a fuel leak when they put the car back up on the dyno on Thursday and Nick told me they will have it solved and give me the car on Monday.

Overall my experience is that you have to be detail with them. Tell them exactly what you want. Otherwise they will build the best solution they can think of which sometimes cost a bit... Don't hurry them, let them work it out and Nick is a very reasonble person to work with. I will do a final report once I get the car back and hit the track.

I am in Europe at this time. Car is still at RRR. Nick was trying really hard to get the car back prior to leaving on vacation but they were couple days late... So he kept the car for the duration of my vacation. I will be back in OC in couple days, after which I will get my car back...

Yeahhhhh got my car back... Nick and his guys really want to make things right. Bunch of little things they just fixed with out charging me. Nelson re-tuned my car on Monday before he left for South America so I'll have to talk to him after he comes back as to how did the tuning go. So the lesson learned is that (I would think this would apply to any work at any shop) be clear on what you want done. Create a list and ask them to provide estimate for you. When they make suggestion on additional work (they do this to improve your car) make sure you find out how much and how long it's going to take and keep in mind that it is a small shop (aren't all of them?) so give them some additional time to get it done right.

I got couple autox / track days coming up. I'll report back what the car feels like after...

Though i have never had service or tuning done by rrr, my neighbor had a custom rotary sand rail built by then that he loved, however my only experience with them I called asking if they had a stock California ecu, he did and i asked how much. He asked me what in willing to pay and said i did not know and threw out $150, he promptly said 350 before i hung up.

Do not know what his name was, spoke poor English and was very shady
