I got a rebuild from them. They took a while to do it but they say (quality work not always fastest) on their site so no surprise there. These guys have answered any question I've had and I've asked quite a few. engine took 2+ months but that is with cryo treatment, ceramics, and many non-stock parts + locate a core. If I lived nearby I would use their shop in a second. I havent run this engine yet but looks sweet and got T 2 rotor housings at no additional cost.

Basicly my car is all back to stock with A/C and P/S again. I thought it was going to cost me an arm and leg to get it back to stock condition, since I didn't have a lot of the parts, and it's a bitch puzzling back all the pieces when someone else hacked it up.
I'm pretty happy with his work, plus his price was very reasonable for all the crap I had done to my car.

But while the motor was out, he did the silicone hoses for the rat's nest, reseal the oil pan, changed the rear main seal and a bunch of little crap I can't remember now.

Paul is awesome. He has done a lot of work on my TII. Since I bought it he's done a 90k service, replace oil cooler lines, replace water pump, put on a new door and fender when I hit a deer, removed my pinstripes and does my oil changes. He's probably done more stuff, I can't remember off the top of my head. I would recommend him to any rotary guys. He is an Rx7 specialist but does other mazdas as well. My brother takes his nb miata to him too.
Hearing all this info on Paul is great. I just bought a Repu from him and it should be here soon.
Guess I will have to get with him also on this cryo treatment I haer alot of.
Also looking for a good shop to do lapping and whatnot.
I will have to post pics of the repu wen I get it. For those of you who know him, tell him chad said thanks. This repu will be my 8th rotary I currently own.
Buy the way - Is Paul on here?

i will put something out there but it could have been due to miscommunication on my customer's part.
i had a customer who took his car into Paul and he quoted him a rebuild due to low oil pressure. of course low oil pressure could be due to worn main bearings but with no metal in the oil i found this unlikely since the oil pressure on his car dropped over night and no evidence of main bearing failure. i pulled the front cover off and low and behold the front oil galley o-ring was completely missing. i resealed it put it back together and charged the customer $250 for the job, i am just hoping that this would not have wound up a $3500 job at paul's shop but as i said i was not there to overhear the conversation so i don't know if paul mentioned the front cover seal or not.

Paul is responsible for the rebuild in my car now(Paid for by the PO). At the time he installed a front mount, redid the vacuum lines, and supposedly installed a BOV, HKS SSQV. Not only did he put a few too many holes in the car when installing the FMIC, he installed it crooked, didn't hook up the BOV to boost, just bolted it to the car, and did a **** poor job on the vacuum lines. The kicker was that he supposedly had the car for 6 months and it ended up costing $6000.00+. Not worth it, but it wasn't my money.
It's good to hear that Paul is putting out good customer service along with his quality rotor work. No one has ever questioned his capabilities as a rotor tech, but he has a checkered past when it came to dealing with customers. My rotary guy is Mike at Mr. Mazda (Paul used to work for Mike years ago). I have come across a lot of Mr. Mazda customers that followed Paul when he left to run Rotorsport. Many of the returned to Mr. Mazda in quick fashion as a result of Paul's lack of customer service skills. But that was a long time ago. I do most of my own work on my 7 now, but I stay in contact with Mike. I never had Paul do any work for me because of his turnaround times (entirely too long), but he is the best in the San Jose area. Rick's Rotary would be next, but Pleasanton is too far to drive when we have good guys in SJ.
There is another story about Paul when he arranged to get a 20B for a friend of mine to put in his sand rail. The story goes that Paul bought 2 20B's from New Zealand, and the one my friend was getting (according to the pics I saw of them) was the better of the two. Well, a couple months later when they arrived at Rotorsport, the one Paul gave to my guy was the other one. The second 20B was wrapped up in plastic in the shop, but Paul would not let him compare the two. Long story short, my friend had to spend a lot money on the motor he ended up with, when it would have been a different story if he got the one in the pic he thought he was getting (from a visual standpoint. You truly never know until you crack the peanut open). But the story went on to show that Pauls motor WAS in better shape. Anyway, my friends motor went to Atkins, got the full treatment for a turbo application, and ultimately produced 650 HP at 3 lbs. of boost on the dyno. He never told me what it ended up doing at 26 lbs. He sold it because his entire family refused to ride in it ever again. So they bought quads.
Anyway, like I said it's good to see that Paul is laying the foundation for being the premiere rotary builder/tuner in SJ.

I've never had a problem with Paul, customer service or other wise. There's one guy at his shop that tends to rub me the wrong way but I've been going there for 2+ yrs and he hasn't so 99.9% of the time I deal with Paul.
He's super friendly and bends over backward to make sure everything is done the way I like it done. Like others have said, Pleasanton is a bit too far for Rick's, and I haven't gone anywhere else down here because I haven't had any problems.
For reference, the major work I've had done at Paul's shop are
Replace radiator after roadkill demolished my old one
Install Tri-Point front sway with Widefoot mounts
Rebuild transmission - long story behind what I did to it but it doesn't matter
I always take it to him between track days to make sure I haven't broken anything and to swap fluids in the trans and diff as well. We tend to talk at length about different set ups for the car as he does have a lot of racing experience. All in all I love dropping my car off at his shop because I know it's going to be in good hands.
Hope that helps.
