Question Any SoCal 3rd Gens with power steering removed?

Does anyone local have a 3rd Gen with the power steering removed? I'd like to feel what it's like, I'm thinking of removing mine.

Thanks,

Most importantly, you free up at least 50HP for drag racing!!

I'm aiming mostly for the weight savings and extra space in the engine bay for airflow / cooling purposes. If I did this, the A/C would be going also.

Anyone closer to L.A. who has removed both power steering and A/C, and would be willing to let me drive their car maybe?

You do remove some parasitic drag.... certainly not 50hp though. I'd guess maybe 5 or 10hp.

Most loop the lines. Only hard part is parallel parking.... once you are above 5 mph it is not very noticeable. I loved the manual rack in my FC. You get Popeye arms after roadracing on your last 20 minute session of the day though.

Damned West forum, I can never tell when people are being sarcastic or not. GOOFYROTOR, did you really crash your car because you couldn't turn the wheel quickly? Usually understeer is caused from coming in too hot, combined with too much steering input. You're not that dude who ran his FC into a curb about 3 months ago, are you?

gnx7, I could care less about the power increase, I'm not into drag at all. I want to get rid of weight up front.

It's drivable but it sucks trying to park. The freeway isn't as bad as the street allthough I don't think you would be able to turn fast enought for track racing. The only reason to do it would be for drag racing.

I'm thinking about doing this again...

Is there anyone in the LA / IE area who would let me drive their manual-steering FD? I'd be willing to buy lunch, beers, or pay your entry fee for an autocross or something.

The problem is most people that remove the p/s just loop the line back into the rack instead of actually converting the rack to manual operation. Mavalgear does this and there's a few forum members who've done it. Unfortunately, I don't know any in Cali, I'd like to try it myself.

Thanks for your opinion, but I'm not doing this for horsepower. 255hp stock is plenty for me.

What I'm really looking for is feedback. I've driven a purpose-built racecar with a manual rack, and you can feel what the tires are doing a million times better than you can in my car. I want to know how close the FD can come to that, since it will still have rubber suspension bushings and street tires.
