After 5 years I finally got a reff ticket :(
yep, you can sell it to a family member and buy it back. i got a ref ticket a couple years ago and i didn't even bother showing up to the ref, i just paid the fine.
sweet!
I was also thinking about buying an old school rx-3 and put my engine in it and never have to see 'smog-man' again. The thing is though is that I can never find one in decent shape... anyone know where I can find one?

This just relesed today. Today only if you take your ref ticket into any local DMV office they will remove it from your record. They expect lines @ the DMV office to be long so all DMV offices statewide will stay open until midnite.

You could try that trick of selling it to someone else and back to yourself again. I haven't heard of anyone going that route myself. What I did multiple times when I was pulled over for throwing flames out the back of my FC coming off the freeway.... I had a straight pipe on the car for well over two years (except when smog came around) but I welded the shell of my cat onto the straight pipe. So when you look from the bottom it appears to be a cat there.
The couple times I was pulled over (really was but once or twice for it.) it was a slap on the wrist asking me to replace my failed cat. Everything out of my mouth was ' Yes sir, thank you for the information.' ' I will take care of that right away sir.' and the 'Sorry for wasting your time with this.'
Worked out well for me. I still would NEVER run a straight pipe if I lived anywhere near SoCal. From what I have heard from friends the refs at least around here are pretty strict about EVERYTHING being stock.
I sold my RX-7s a while ago so I could save money for a house, the second reason was being tired of being pulled over every night on the way home for no real reason. Besides being in a FD after 10pm-midnight and them having nothing better to do. I never really got much attention in my FC unless it was tossing flames on the freeway, or exiting.
The whole drifting fad wasn't huge around here until I was selling my FC. Thats likely why the cops started pulling me over in the FD.. but can't be sure, my exhausts were all nice and quiet/Looking OEM for the most part. I have never been one for wanting any attention. Everyone getting pegged for all these tickets... it might die down once the trend /drift scene goes out of style. Or until they impound/ban all cars from the road. Whichever comes first I suppose.
Best of luck.
