5th gear synchro in '95 FD

Well after 42,000 miles the 5th gear synchro is gone I think. I get the usual grind in higher RPM going into 5th. Anyway, mazda said about a grand in labor. I think the part itself is only like $35. Anyway, anyone had this done yet , what was the cost?

since you are going in the tranny anyway you might as well rebuild it

I've got the same problem, happened on the on-ramp going from 2nd to third. I got all the parts + new bearing from Malloy Mazda for about $125. There is a sticky on the 3rd gen site on how to do the job. If you can remove a x-mission yourself you can do the job.

A thousand bucks!! I wouldnt let a mazda dealer touch my fd, yet alone hand over that much money to them. Do some research and if your not able to do it yourself take it to a reputable rotary mechanic. You might save a little money and alot of headache.

I am going to take the car to SPD for a complete rebuild. I need to pick up my gauges from them anyway.
