Where have all the veterans gone?

Just curious, as it seems the forum is dying out and the vets with god-tier knowledge have disappeared (at least in the 2nd Gen section). Anyone know what happened to satch, HAILERS, misterstyx69, Rotary Evolution and the likes? I know j9fd3s and FuhrerTuner are still kicking around, thankfully.

Wow. I didn't see that post. I've interacted with misterstyx69 a few times on here and true to form, he was always helpful and his humor appreciated.

I've been wondering the same thing about the 3rd gen vets for a while, it seems like somewhere around 6 years ago the forums changed and we lost the community of technical how-to threads and it shifted more towards a selling platform for those looking to profit. Instead of in-depth threads of groups working together to solve a problem its more often hey look what XXXX turbo kit I sell did, please call me and lets discuss it offline.

There's also the fact that nearly every aspect of these cars has been covered multiple times by the OGs on here, so sticking around for another decade to answer the same questions over and over may lose its appeal.

Just my 2 cents, the golden age on here is over

Are you referring to the golden age of 20 something fast and furious wannabes that threw on a single turbo and some bolt on's that subsequently blew their engines?

Call it what you will, I've been seeing less and less activity in relation to in-depth trouble-shooting posts. I can say with the utmost certainty, that I would not still own my car if I hadn't found some of the information buried in these forums.

I'm not sure about other forum sections, but I believe the Second Gen section could use an additional archiving/sticky service for the technical posts that are confirmed to be accurate/ helpful.

Ebbs and flow. I've been hoping that something a bit more egalitarian and engineering focused rather than car specific and beyond 'will these rims fit' or 'who makes the new hotness to bolt on'. I frequent a couple but they don't have nearly the traffic that rx7club used to and obviously the rotary work is....lacking.

Who the hell is Paula Cole?

Edit: A quick Google search confirms, I have no idea who that is and I did not channel her.

And yes, I have noticed that some big names are missing, and while it's sad in some ways, it also puts the onus on us (see what I did there?) to try to keep the board alive and useful to those coming behind us. It takes time out of your life and dedication (Styx was a great example of that, and I wish I could rise to his level), but it can be done.

once upon a time i was known as Karack/Rotary Evolution, after years of service to the community and with my business failing i had fallen into depression, the years of helping people in the community and the one sided efforts i had put in here were further fuelling it, i asked to be permanently banned from the forum to save myself and the request was denied, i eventually intentionally scrambled my password and associated email linking to the rotaryevolution account so i could never access it again. in the end i made some enemies of some of the moderators on the site and now i'm considered permanently banned whether i want that or not(honestly no longer care). i have accumulated over 25k posts on this forum over the years and the community seemed to have forgotten me when i needed them the most, so i took it upon myself to fix the issue.

anyways, 'm still alive, living in central florida, i had 2 major car accidents shortly after moving here and now i have a permanent neck injury, after closing my shop i got to a point where i was on food stamps for about 6 months, but ulimately got a job working back in the automotive dealership industry working for fiat chrysler again, now im a master technician but the last few years my health has been failing, likely due to the chromium and silica dust i inhaled every day for years. the past is the past, you move on and try to live your life as best you can. i don't really say all this for pity, because the accidents changed my outlook on life and forced me out of my rut and self doubt to become a stronger and more determined person. i saved and bought a janky house, fixed it up with every minute of my free time and sold it to buy a bigger house and paying off all my debts.

i still have my 1987 RX7 TII, however it has been neglected for about the last 8 years now, i plan on restoring it and selling it along with all the parts i accumulated over the years. my once hobby, turned job that never returned to my hobby is all but done.

i wish you all well, (no matter how much of a dick i may have seemed, i always cared)

RotaryEvolution/Karack.

Karack built me a better engine than Addicted did, for about 1/3rd the price and about 1/10th the time.

Good to see you around, Ben. Hopefully you get well soon. Don't be thinking you were a dick because you had to school a couple people. From what I remember you never steered anyone wrong. Stoked to see you back.

As long as we're remembering old school people that aren't with us anymore, lets pour a cold one, and toast to Icemark and Guitar Junkie.

The competition for "clicks" has increased dramatically and likely many have moved on to other platforms. We have 166 members in our local whatsapp and have over 200 posts a day. Only a few of our group also post on here. I still find this a very valid platform and enjoy the posts. There is a steady stream of new owners signing on. It would be good to encourage them to contribute.

Other broader platforms have their issues, and this provides a chance for RX7club to emerge as a premium platform.

Many folk are discouraged from accessing RX7club, especially on their cellphones, because they are bombed with ads.

They perhaps don't know you can turn the ads off.

I don't know if my PC is doing that, or there is an account setting that does it.

Simply having an account and being signed in gets rid of most of the ads, but that's commonplace across almost all forums.

I can certainly agree about people being discouraged from accessing RX7club in general, regardless of ads. Relatively often you see folks on the Facebook groups and wherever else declare that the forums are dead and aren't worth bothering with anymore (at least in regarding participation). I'm sure we lose quite a few potential folks to that message.

Getting back to the topic though, even on my comparatively short stay to most of you folks here, I've seen a number of vets disappear from the first gen section (where I generally stay). GSLSEforme and Jeff20B are the first that come to mind. Lots of great knowledge that will forever live on through this website provided by these folks.

sigh.

I proclaim Internet Brands the evil plaguing our lands. People went to the socials as IB had placed corporate fuckery over community building. Include that on FB you can have all sorts of **** blasted at you. As a forum member here you are taking your time to engage about Rx7s. All other distractions are put aside. The netizen of today wants a sour goulash of angry posts, viral fails and elitist circle jerks. I thought we were toxic in the past as a forum, but my god. So now if anyone has a question with established answers, no... we don't point them to a well written forum post. They get to filter through 4 people giving contradictory info. Then there is YouTube. Which I love. But I have a question that could be answers in a small paragraph. Nope. we need a 15 minute video with back story and bad production and shaky cameras and walking around a shop. Google, just give me the instructions. I know Alphabet want me to go to YouTube but damnit. Here we are, in the age of digital enlightenment and its all trackers and adverts.

Haha, agreed.
Facebook has about 10 rotary engine clubs, 20 RX-7 clubs and 100 Japanese car clubs. One thing they all have in common is most of the people posting don't own an RX-7. So many JDM fan groups with photoshopped hella flush pics of FDs, it can make your head spin. Like, OK, enough already, Yes, we've seen the Veilside kit! No, we don't want to trade our FD for your WRX!
I actually saw a pic that I posted here of one of my old FCs, but the guy on Fakebook photochopped it so it was a different color, all flared and cambered out, and slammed to my driveway. I was like...hmm, that car look familiar, and posted the original pic, only to be told by 100 dorks that it should really be purple and squished with 0 offset wheels. Get to work!

Anyway, /rant.
This club is full of Rotary-engine car owners who are either looking for help, selling parts that actually exist, or just shooting the **** with other like-minded rotards. I like that.

Small gatherings are also hard to organize. Regional forms are super dead. FB is so fragmented and algorithms do not ensure target audiences have the opportunity to be aware of events.

worst is no stickies on FB. It’s all about new posts and viral metrics. No chance to nurture any development.

Nice to see some old names popping up again. I took a detours with a BRZ and an F80 M3 but am back for more RX7 fun. This time with an FD rather than Turbo IIs. While forums are dwindling in members, this site is still has a wealth of information. I find it more useful than the facebook groups unless trying to arrange a local meet.

To quote Marilyn Manson

YOU CAN'T KILL ME....

Kicking it old school like an old fool. Put about 4000mi in the last couple months on my mechanically restored ex rallycross '81 RX-7 with all of a hundred horsepower from its thundering stock 12A, did a detour a couple weeks ago to drive down to West Virginia in my other RX-7 which has a bridge ported 13B and the world's loudest Ford 9" (thanks to the 4.87 gears with teeth the size of traffic cones) to go throw some dirt in the name of fun
