GB: Full Function Engineering Crank Trigger Kits - S4, S5, and RE 13B's
It's finally here!
A well engineered, high quality, high resolution crank pickup for the S4, S5, and RE 13B Engines is now available to the public. This kit allows those with high performance ECU's to run multi-tooth Motronic style wheels which offer greater resolution/sensitivity with zero rpm drift. The days of running a sloppy OEM CAS that has to be "stabbed" or an ultra low resolution two magnet Hall-effect setup are over. These kits are essentially bolt-on and go.
The 36 tooth wheel (renesis & 36-2) offers 3x greater resolution than a stock FC pickup (CAS) and 18x better than a two magnet Hall-Effect setup.
With competent tuning these features combine for the smoothest / safest / most stable rotary engine you've ever driven.
We currently have an ECU compatibility list that is expanding as we're able to test more ecu's, so stay tuned for your ECU to be next!

They bolt to the hub (with the pulley) not directly to the actual pulley itself (check picture). The trigger kit more than likely will not work on your gilmer drive kit because those gilmer kits tend to have a larger positive offset than stock pullies (farther away from the engine). A pulley/trigger kit combo is currently in the works though.

The megasquirt software looks to be flexible enough to setup for this kit, we will work on sorting the details out.
The bolt pattern should line up fine with the racing beat pulley, the only question is the thickness and offset of the pulley.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge the haltech will not support a 20B with anything other than stock CAS or stock FD trigger wheels currently. I'm sure the unit is capable, probably just needs to be recoded. If there is enough interest, they may be willing to do an update so we should all send them an email asking about it...

We have asked both Scott (scott@haltech.com) and Matt (haltechmatt on the haltech forums) about custom trigger setups in the past. Basically their response is they don't support full control over triggers and custom rotary triggers because it would be too complex and confusing for the average user, but also because they said there was no real interest otherwise. This is one reason we made the rx8 style wheels available. However, the rx8 trigger setup will only work with 2-rotors as far as we know.
Our first prototype wheel was actually a 20B using a 36-2 wheel running a motec, so we have the design and setup files for proper tooth offset, so setting it up on their end should be pretty easy. So now we just need to convince them to update for either ours or an rx8...

Some good news for you
You will see in the next week or two the pics of the FD kit. It is a lot more simple than the FC kits and should be no issue with your side mount alternator. It is also half the price.
Some not so good news
The M4 does NOT allow split timing with any wheel other than stock. (DOS based lack of support?!)

We're in the process of collecting data for the Microtech stuff but have a suspicion it will work on later ECU's.
The problem with the aftermarket pullies (i.e. Gilmer drive, 5 rib,etc) is that there are so many different manufacturers with different offsets it would be impossible to make matching trigger kits for every set.
For those that have aftermarket pullies..
If you can take a measurement from the hub to where your aftermarket crank pulley stops (coming forward away from motor) I can tell you exactly if it will work. (measurement needs to be within 0.010")
EVOPANDA, Ditch the AC/PS! Every rx7 owner knows having a properly running rotary is above all comforts! =)
