Wno's Your Tranny?
Hey - I was curious to see if anyone out there has experience using the Art Carr transmissions? I was looking at gettin his 200-4r monster (rated to over 750hp+), but the at the price of $2696, I can buy two trans from this shop Danny'sTrannys in Florida (his are rated 650hp+). I wanted to see if some living testimonies can help swing my vote. I am only making about 420hp now, but looking to add meth or nitro, and supercharger in future ()...and want not to have to upgrade. Thanks! ()

I'm Milw, WI: there's only two shops recommended as good with 200-4r. And the ad on Carr was said to be him in CA-

That is used in the Buick Grand National.
Poke around on turbobuick or turbobuicks.com and try to find a reputable builder. There are plenty of billet parts available.... but since the RX-7 is so light you probably just need basic clutches/steels, shift kit/seals and a quality convertor.
I have a BRF valvebody which was only found in the '86-87 GN's if you need one. They shift better than non BRF units.
Of note.... a 4L80E weighs a lot more and is bigger... but will take more abuse in stock form than just about any built up TH200-4R. The internals are simply day/night as far as size/strength. A basic shift kit in them will allow big power.

I broke down the car, getting it prepped for undercoating and paints...was debating pulling out the transmission myself rather than having shop pull and install new. Any people out there have insight on difficulty level of just dropping a trans? I think I got the tools, clearance, and some mechanical skills (emphasis SOME). I'm looking to save money- what's the know-how's?? Thanks
