V8 Swap cost
For anyone out there who swapped in a V8 on a 1st gen, what did you end up paying total for it? Me and my friend just picked up another 1st gen with a junk motor and tranny with a nice frame and decent body, we wanna drop a 350 in it and take it out ot the drags for fun.
Anyone have some price estimates? I wanna run it as fast as I can, and we canh ave about 10,000 to put into it.

You could build a VERY clean LS1/T56 1st gen with 10K dollars. I'm including suspension, body, paint and some engine mods if you're planning most of the work yourself.
Decent 1st Gen: ~900 bucks
LS1/T56 (shop around): 2500 bucks
Wheels/Tires: 500 bucks
Professional body/paint: 2500 bucks
Mounting kit, swap parts: 1500 bucks
That still leaves 2100 for interior, suspesion, camshaft, nitrous, etc.
Same costs pretty well apply to 2nd Gens as well, though a clean S5 will probably start out ~1000 dollars more.
Good luck if you're going through with it. There are a couple LS1/1st Gens, and a TON of SBC/SBFs completed over www.torquecentral.com

I dont care too much about looks, so I can mark that out of price writeup, i allready have the car, so thats gone too. So all I need is the Motor/Trans & all the other crap to make it run. I found a Chevy Corvette LS1 with what i believe was a T56 tranny for 2600, the motor has everything included, CPU, Alternator, water pump, all the electrical.
Paint probably wont be touched though, and if I can do the whoel swap for 5k, thats awesome. That is about the price we were originally shooting for, but someone told us it cost them 10k to do a swap, but i guess he did some restoring too. This car will probably end up pretty much being a drag car. Thats my plans for it, i want to just get something, then drag the hell out of it. So we are going to add in a racing clutch/fly wheel, but not for awhile, we arent going to hit it that hard for a little bit.
& Razorback, im in tulsa.

So, yet another post, If i'm wanting to drag, what kind of tranny and rear-end would you guys recomend?
This car will probably end up being a pretty serious drag car if plans go the way they should. We want to have the motor in it, then from there its just going to be slow upgrades until we get it to where we want it at.
So, come on guys, gimme some advice, and i'll really respect you, its a fair trade!

for hardcore dragging you would probably want a solid rear, ford 9.0, mopar 8 3/4 etc.
im about 4 hrs from you, my sister lives in tulsa though, and is going to tulsa welding school. i was also in tulsa about a month ago, i really like that town so far. i hope to go back after my car is done (mopar big block v8 into my t2, more details in my thread in this section)
