V8 conversion question
I am selling a parts car ( canadian classifieds 1982 GX check it! :P) and a friends interested buying it for the rear end for his SBC coinversion project.
My question is regarding the transmission. how hard is it to adapt a SBC to the RX-7 TRanny?
are there kits for this? if so who sells them?
do people even do this? or is the tranny too fragile to take the v8 torque?
any info would help.
thanks

You'll get more feedback in the Engine Conversions forum, or you can go to TorqueCentral. The short answer is, there is no reason to adapt the RX7 transmission as the automatic and manuals that come with the SBC can be swapped easily in to the FB.

It makes much more sense to use a chevy transmission with the chevy engine; you'll spend more time/money trying to adapt the Mazda unit then it would cost to use a GM 5 or 6 speed.
Yeah, don't discuss pistons in the other forums. They lose more people every year to the darkside, and thus fear us greatly.

an adapter plate could be made ok, clutch size inside the belhousing might be an issue. along with the basic fact that the rx7 trannies aren't very well known for taking torque, it would be a lot easier to use t5 and that would still be stronger then the rx7 trans.
