that depends to what kind of Fbody the LS1 came off of.

the Fbody's that did not come with Z rated tires were governed to about 125-130.

but that can also be changed within the computer via HP tuners, etc. My PCM's speed limiter is set to 180mph

my friends fbody with only air filter and exhaust tops out at around 165-ish MPH.

Doesn't this have more to do with gearing ratios and the size of the tires? I think I'll just go ahead and write up an excel spreadsheet to calculate this out..

i wouldn't rely on calculations (bench racing, in my opinion), best thing to do is to go out and actually do it

It takes about 500 flywheel horsepower to go 200mph in a slippery body (ie .29-31cd).

How fast people have gone in LS1/FD's and how fast they are capable of are 2 different things.

I have been up to 160mph in my LS1FC with plenty of power and gear left...
I wouldnt want to try to reach 190 or even just 180 in my FC, but I do think 190mph is possible...
an FD chassis would only make that 190 even easier to reach IMHO.

pwwatkins, why do you ask?

Why do people care about top speed? Its the fast track to death. Seriously.

The FD body lifts off of the ground somewhere around 180mph IIRC from the sand flat video. I'm guessing thats the "top Speed".

I've taken mine to the top of 4th gear, which is 130mph. I've no desire to go any faster unless its because it goes faster in a 1/4 run.

215 if my memory serves me correctly. It also had three rotors, three turbos and skinnies all around to get it up to that speed.

FWIW, your car makes me happy. Kudos.

The salt flat video is not caused by lifting, it was caused by just the opposite, downforce on the nose. :/ FDs get a bad name due to that damn video.

i took my old FD up to 160 many of times with no problems. at that speed i felt my car actually getting pulled down with and without the RE Amemiya N1 kit. needless to say very stable. i think most of the people that hide behind that video is b/c they don't feel safe at those speeds. i do amit its not the fastest thing to be doing but with a properly maintained car, some Z rated tires and a nice open rode and little jolt up to those speeds is harmless. hell your driving a sports car not some honda civic might as well drive it like it was ment to be driven

Actually, I believe Racing Beat stated that the accident was caused by a mechanical failure.
