Thinking of V-8 swapping my FC..want opinions from those who have done it

1st, please let me say that I know how these threads usually go. If you have some huge problem with what I do to my car, and feel the need to yell at me or call me a dumbass or whatever, just keep it out of this thread, PM me, whatever.

Secondly, I know there are a number of people on this forum who have done this, and I would like their opinions to as what the car feels like after the swap. Handling, feel, etc. I have asked others, but in alot of cases the people who do this are people who have had no experiece with the rotary, or are hillbillies who dont give a **** either way. (including alot of people on torque central, which is why Id rather ask here) Let me say that the reason for me wanting to do this.. is that I want ~450HP, and am now coming to the realization that doing that with a rotary will be very expensive, and will probably prove to make a very unreliable engine. I am looking at a '93-97 LT1 with the T-56 6-speed transmission. I do plan on road racing my FC , and I have done my homework and know that if done right, the swap really shouldnt effect the balance of the car much, but Im sure it feels a little different. So Im just asking those have done it, what was the initial swap like? Any problems I should be aware of now? How hard is the wiring job? Thanks to all who reply.

Clearly the opinions you seek are more plentiful on www.v8rx7.com (it links to the forum hosted on torque central)

Yea, Im there almost every day, just reading over posts. But when you would ask this type of question over there, most of the answers consist of

"Id take my V-8 anyday over that rotary POS, they blow up every 10k miles anyway, and cant make over 200HP..blah blah blah"

Clearly this does not apply to everyone over there, I just wanted a more un-biased opinion.

450hp isnt going to be very easy out of an LT1 either. it'd have to be significanctly built, and probobly bored/stroked....... it certainly wouldnt be a crate engine drop in if that kind of power is your goal. well, unless you step up to an ls6, but then you are puting a $15,000 boinger engine into a 20 year old japanese car. might as well buy a used C5 at that rate.

I'd think that with a nice heads/cam setup, along with bolt ons (headers, intake, etc..) I shouldnt be too far off. Im still researching a bit, but I dont think that power goal is far-fetched.

you could be right. im no gm performance guru. but the lt1 made 275-300hp stock right? thats looking for a 50% increase. iduno if just heads/cams/headers can do that.

A heads/cam LT1 can do 450 without much trouble. And $15k for an LS6? Where the hell did that come from?
