which rx-7 for 350 swap?

hi,im sure this has been asked a million times, but im new to this kind of thing, and am curious to what rx-7 you would suggest to get, if i wanted to swap a 350 in it. i am very intrested, but not sure on which models provide what, and if ones better than the other for X reason. i do want to find a 86-91. so i figured i'd come here to ask the right people about it.

another thing is . will the granny's dexluxe kit be all i need to install the tranny and motor? another question, what about the rear end. what would i need to do to it? if anynething, and would you suggest putting gears in it. it'll be used for a daily driver, but also the strip. thanks a lot in advance

86 base model because they weigh 2625 lbs. Just do a 5 lug conversion on it.

You would rather do it to a car that already has a 5 lug, so you don't have to waste a lot of time and money swapping.

The older RX-7's had four lugs holding each wheel onto its respective hub. Doing a five-lug conversion means converting the wheel setup to have five lugs holding each wheel to its respective hub. With this setup, you put a little less stress on the wheels and hubs when you have a high amount of torque and horsepower, and you also get a much better wheel selection.

You mean your prefer the looks of the 89 to 91, because the 86 looks just like an 88. Most people in this particular forum have rotaries, and haven't going piston. There is a forum on here for people who do LS1, etc. swaps. They would know more than any of us rotor people.

If you want to talk with someone about it theres a place called Mazcare in Marietta, GA (Just north of Atlanta) and they specialize in RX7s and love doing LS1 swaps.

Go the other engine section of the forum, you'll get more open minded answers

Best bet IMHO would be an S4 Base model, and swap a TII diff/halfshaft into it. Or find an S4 GXL.

Yeah, this is the wrong section. Go to the other engine section. They'll give much better and friendlier tips.

Just make sure the resulting car has more horsepower per pound than a stock RX-7 with minor upgrades, or you'll make me extra mad. Assuming the 350 only adds 100lbs., the number to beat is about 195HP. Add about 5HP for every 100lbs. beyond that.

IMO... get a nice light Datsun and leave our RX-7 alone. Among RX-7's, I think the FB is the cheapest and the lightest. It also has a solid rear-axle, which your type might like. Its engine bay might be small, though, I dunno. The newer RX-7's handle better, but you'll be losing some of that handling by putting a heavy weight in the nose anyway.

Here is a write up I did for the 4-5 lug convertion in the rear. It is not that hard to do.
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/4-lug-5-lug-conversion-rear-write-up-616266/

You should just go for the cheapest you can find.
I am not sure about the gears in the rear, but you should be able to get a drive shaft made to not need to change out the rear end.

Stay away from GRANNY's Kits.

People I have known and talked to have had very poor fit or no fit at all with the Granny's Conversion Kits. Just a word of advice. There are better kits out there and much better customer service and support. There have been many problems in the past. Spend your money elsewhere!
If you go with them it's to late to be sorry. IMHO

uhhhhh.... who else has a complete kit besides Granny? noone if your doing an LS1. With the grannys delux you will basically have everything, but you should ask because its going to depend on what motor and tranny, for instance you may need a pull slave?
My pick is a first gen, lightest RX7 for the swap!

I would say a TII or GXL FC. I have a GXL and the hardest part was getting the TII diff, and you will need it with that much power. And I have a Granny's kit and it worked perfect

Do a search and read the posts - this will help you make an educated decision about what route to take whether to go with the various V8 options, RX-7 body options, or if you choose to stay with a rotary as well.

Please ignore previous posts by the morons who can't seem to keep their small-minded opinions private and actually provide an answer to your question.
