LT1 swap?? where and how much ?

hello agian, need some help again. blown motor 3rd gen. beautifull car. i'm all about spec-ing it out to efini twins, need reliability so was gonna send to Rotary performance in TX. Estimate i got is VERY high. worth every penny but high. 12ish.

i've been saving up and i think i have enough for an ls1 swap. but i'm thinking LT1.

anyone know if anyone around STL will tackle this project. i know i'll get good power , cheaper than a streetport, efini twin, upgraded everything Rotary.

a vette engines not bad. i need this thing running. it just hurts too bad to see it sit there. LT1 swap, t56 tranny , conversion kit and someone to do it sounds affordable. as so i think.

anyone know of any one thats done LT1, not LS1. i'll have to sell alot of parts off my 7 like the greddy intercooler and basically everything.

and i know i lose AC, but does power steering go too?

if you have any info ( as much as posiible) on this swap to let me know

http://www.torquecentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11 <- should answer all your questions.

Also, I know LS1/FD guys with AC retained - you really should consider going LS1, you get your moneys worth and then some (stronger internals, better heads, better ignition [no opticrap]) but Im not exactly sure youd necessarily lose AC doing a LT1 swap. You'll save some money but when you start modding youll spend more than if you did LS1 in the first place, apparently :P

The steering rack is relocated with a FD kit, but you get a tie-rod kit to avoid bumpsteer.

J. Labreck was working on an LT1, very mild, only cost him about 50k for the swap.

NO it's not typical. If you search this forum for a thread by jimlab you'll see why his cost is so high. He's creating the 'ultimate' RX7 and is sparing no expense because he doesn't need to. You can do an LT1 or LS1 conversion for a reasonable amount. But what it costs depends on how much you can do yourself and what you want to accomplish.

Check out the V8 RX7 section of Torquecentral.com, www.hinsonsupercars.com and www.grannysspeedshop.com for a lot more info than you will find on this site.

Interjection:

Some guys at TC have been doing 5300 or 6000 votec swaps. Before you go ZOMG ITS A TRUK ENGINE!!1one, hear me out. Its just a iron blocked version of the LS1, except its got an iron block and is either 5.3 or 6.0 liters instead of 5.7 - but same top end, etc. Hell, a lot of LS1 guys use 5300 heads!

IIRC a 5300 actually makes more power than a LT1, and doesnt have the opticrap or other bullshit to deal with. Im not sure about the truck intake manifold, but IIRC you can put a LSx intake on it. The 5300 will bolt up to a T-56 or Auto, the 6000 needs something to adopt it to those transmissions unless you get one of the rare ones with the right kind of crankshaft for it.

Im not totally sure of the specifics yet, but thats a good budget option. And, when you get it all situated, look for a LS1 shortbock and pistons to swap everything into later on down the line to get your aluminum block and more displacement :yeah: Or blaze a new trail and mod either of those engines as they are.
