LT1 Swap? t56 tranny? can it be done, where and around how much?

hello agian, need some help again. blown motor 3rd gen. beautifull car. i'm all about spec-ing it out to efini twins, need reliability so was gonna send to Rotary performance in TX. Estimate i got is VERY high. worth every penny but high. 12ish.

i've been saving up and i think i have enough for an ls1 swap. but i'm thinking LT1.

anyone know if anyone around STL will tackle this project. i know i'll get good power , cheaper than a streetport, efini twin, upgraded everything Rotary.

a vette engines not bad. i need this thing running. it just hurts too bad to see it sit there. LT1 swap, t56 tranny , conversion kit and someone to do it sounds affordable. as so i think.

anyone know of any one thats done LT1, not LS1. i'll have to sell alot of parts off my 7 like the greddy intercooler and basically everything.

and i know i lose AC, but does power steering go too?

if you have any info ( as much as posiible) on this swap to let me know.

You can keep ac and ps. But so far its cost me around 9k and i sold about 8k of rotary stuff so really its not bad. Go over to www.torquecentral.com also to get your basic mounting stuff there is www.hinsonsupercars.com and grannys speed shop

Grrrr, it makes me mad when anybody even mentions this. Find something less rare and sought after than a FD to destroy!

You talked to me on the phone, now listen to what I told you dammit!

Yeah, and I met him up at DR Autosports to talk with him. Ron gave him the best price around.

Just another tire kicker.

Rare? I am happily destroying mine right now, lt1 6 speed would be cheap and reliable. Only problems are opti related and I have never had one myself just some local goobers have. My hugger orange ss's are rarer than these and I own two!

Then you too are a loser ...

There were only about 13,500 FD's brought into the States ... probably 3000 or so destroyed for whatever reason, many others trashed by stupid owners. So yes, very rare and sad to see them defaced by people without the ability to make a rotary work.

I love my rotary. I use half of it as a paper weight and the other half as a boat anchor. I have had no reliability issues.

I keed....I keed!

I guess I suck, I love my ls1's. Never owned a rotary but If I did I assure you it would work just fine, I am not hating but you jumped on the band wagon against v8's with out giving one a fair chance.

I saved mine from the junk yard wrecked and with a turdy broken motor.
Edsels are rare too but that does not make them cool!

Bah.

To the original poster, if you can get it to Fort Wayne, IN, I'll convert it for you. If you're serious drop me an email webmonger@terminalfear.com and we can discuss options.

I thought most site administrators could read.

I said "to the original poster" which would be... NOT YOU. Go play with your dorito motor.

Yanno, Vortec 5300s are cheap and can have a T-56 mounted to them, theyre basically just debored LS1s with iron blocks.

Now, why would I speak of, *GASP*, a TRUCK ENGINE!??!?!?!?!??!11111one!?!?

More performance than a LT1, probably about the same price if not cheaper, no opticrap, and you can build and mod it like you would a LS1 and wait for a good LS1 shortblock and swap over your internals, heads, etc and just get new pistons for the wider bore, and the same weight

Also, theres a REASON we dont want a camaro - we want a better chassis!

Ever seen the engine bay of a camaro? FD + LS1 is a much better car from a mechanical standpoint than a stock LS1 car. New cars are nightmares. New feature: put half the engine under the windshield. Just face it, people who can make the rotary work eventually see the light and realize that a modern V8 widens the car's performance envelope, streetability being the number one improvement (emissions testing).

Just wait until everyone wakes up and realize that its better to make power at lower rpms and with more torque (wider powerband), and hp per liter doesnt matter!

The man never asked your opinion on his choice he wants to know if he can do what he wants to do...I cant beleive your floccinaucinihilipilification of his idea I think its good (yes, I did use the f-word and spell it right without checking any where else wannafightaboutit?)
He wants better fuel economy, better torque, and questionably reliability..but lets NOT go there
Im not 100% but if you contact hinsonsupercars.com you should have no problem with this swap.

Hinson does LSx swaps!!!! I dont believe he makes a LT1 FD subframe or FC mounts. Youd need a SBC subframe from grannys, LT1 and SBC share the same mounts.

I also didnt floccinauchinihilipilificate what he did, i just made a suggestion... oh and the vortec 5300 uses LSx mounts :-p
