Lt1 in a fd?
I have seen people put ls1's etc in um and i seen one guy who put the lt1 in his and loves it..
anyone tell me any pros and cons of running a LT1 over a ls1?
i mean i still assume 11 second passes will be easily attainable with either motor with just bolt ons. but im lookin for YOUR opnion
plus is the weight of a LT1 and 6 speed really all that bad? expecially if you remove about all the accessorys that arnt needed.. ps and ac etc..

i have an LT1 in my FD...
my LT1 set up: '94 4-bolt main block, bored/stroked to 383ci. Trick flow heads, comp cam, T56 transmission, weir hot rod bellhousing with hydro-throw out bearing conversion, no AC, no air pump, i do have PS (chevy pump w/ custom lines to stock FD rack), 3.90 auto rear end, steel driveshaft.
why do i like it? I did my swap 4 yrs ago. at the time and even still, it's cheaper to start with an LT vs LS. The LT does have a cast iron block so it does add some weight. I've not noticed really any difference in the handling of the car because of this. I right now have the car back under the knife getting better exhaust and ignition set up.
Another two things I like about my LT is that its isn't as common as the LS swaps these days. (I've only seen 3-4 others...only one of those was in person) I've seen several LS swaps. Also, in general, the LT makes more torque than horse power out of the box. Keeping that natural performance of the engine was part of my original goal in swapping. (old 350ci lt1 had 292 ft-lbs at 2k rpm and held til 6k, i've not been happy enough with the 383 in it now to put it on a dyno and see what it can really do...)
its also a physically smaller engine than the LS blocks (like 1 1/2 more narrow...little shorter...) so bump steer correction isn't an issue.
with the kit i have (one of Granny's original), i didn't have to cut my whole for my shifter, it comes right up in the stock location.
Cons:
more the fact of knowing i have an iron block though i dont notice any effects on handling.
i have a rotary FD now that i'm hoping ot back on the road within the month with a single turbo. then i can get back to the lt1. once both are running, i plan to do a good bit of comparison on them. weight, drive-ablity, fuel consumption and handling. if any other questions, feel free to PM me...but i'll try to check back to this thread on occasion.
