LS1 Project using Hinson Subframe
LS1 Project using Hinson Subframe
The engine is getting removed and should be out pretty soon. I spoke to Brian who was very nice and cordial who informed me the subframe should be shipped out today or Monday. Once the subframe arrives, I'll take pics before and after its installed.
RX7 FAN is my other account. Hehe.
Today I got the engine in as a whole piece with the transmission mated. I removed the starter, a/c, alternator, as well as the intake manifold, and ignition system. Putting the engine/transmission in was extremely easy (everything slid in like butter) and took about 20 minutes. My friend and I did this on an incline (20 degrees). :coolugh:
First, we jacked up the motor as high as the hoist could go. The car was on all 4 wheels. Next, we let the hoist roll down the incline and once the transmission was next to the bumper, my friend lifted up the transmission so that it could clear the bumper. Then, I pushed the hoist until the transmission end lined up to the firewall. Next, I lowered the engine/transmission a little bit. Then, I jacked up the car and put it on jack stands (Probably 14 inches up). Next, I lowered the engine/transmission while pushing the hoist forward. We kept on doing this (lowering/pushing forward) until the engine mounts lined up with the Hinson subframe ears. Pushed the engine bolts in and voila.
The engine is slanted in the last picture because I haven't used the transmission brace yet. I shall do that tomorrow.

Another thing, the LS1 is a lot easier to work with. I don't have to worry about broken solenoids, popped vacuum hoses, etc.

Kind of hard to see, but I got the carbon fiber rear hatch on. New pictures coming soon this Saturday 5/3/2008. The car will be at the car show at the University of Maryland on 5/4/2008. So if you're there, feel free to say hello.
