I don't know th actual weight of either one, but a Ford 302/5.0 weighs 75 pounds less than an iron block 350 Chev. You can save 50 pounds on either one with aluminum heads, and regardless of all the pros and cons of various brands, one of the biggest advantages of aluminum heads is they virtually eliminate the "pinging" problem, so you can run regular gas, assuming you don't go crazy with compression ratio.

My Ford has alloy heads, intake, radiator and water pump, and the engine adds less than 100 pounds over the rotary. Of course, by the time you buy all this aluminum stuff, you paid for an LS1 package, so take your choice.

The problem with comparing weights is everything you read is with some different combination of installed equipment.

The weight really isnt that big of a deal! It just doesnt matter. By Design of the RX7 its far enough back you wont ever get 'noseheavy', and proper tuning, sticky tires, and the vastly improved power and powerband make it handle and perform just fine.

Ill put it this way - individual features such as "50/50 weight distribution" and "VTEC" and other **** sound good, but in practice, you can get by fine with slightly noseheavy cars and static cam timing - or even pushrods! The only reason youd have to care about your weight distro at a stop (because it goes back if you accelerate and forwards if you brake...) would be if youre at the nth degree of racing, and "shavings make a pile" but in a street car it really wont make much of a difference. And, well, a pushrod v8 thats VERY slightly nose heavy (53/47, at most) could easily outperform a more "balanced" chassis that might have more "sophisticated" suspension geometry or engine valvetrain.

Get it?

Get it?
