I weighed my LS1/T56 FD. *weight and overall impressions*

Some of you may know me (a lot of the florida guys anyway). I've been around the rotary community for over three years now. Back in June I started on a LS1/T56 swap in my FD after popping another 13B with my T78/GT79. Many of you are against the swap other think it's cool so I figured I'd post the weight distrobution of the car and my over all impressions for those that are interested.

The car weighs 2700lbs with half a tank of gas.

On the corner scales it actually registered 2740lbs with aproximately 12 gallons of gas in the car and about 25-30lbs of stuff behind the passanger seat. Laptop, inverter, cd, maglite, couple tools, etc.

Distribution is 1387 front 1353 rear, basically 50/50

With a filled nitrous bottle the numbers will still be the same with the remove items from behind the seat.

The car is a full interior 93 R1. The following have been removed.

Power Steering, I have a welded up rack with no loop
AC, but the blower is still under the dash
ABS...
Washer fluid or resivour
Coolant resivour. I am using a Pettit Aluminum AST for a Overflow
wipers or wiper motor. Use Rain-X!
I don't usually keep the spare or cargo covers in either.

The majority of this stuff was out already when my rotary was still in place ac, ps, wipers, etc.

ok, enough about the weight of the car.

Many of my rotary friends have asked me if I would go through with the swap again. The answer is yes. I love the instant torque. The car car still handles the same with just a different power band. The instant torque accompanied by the FD's chassis is a lot of fun. I do miss the turbo rotary for it's power. With the mildly upgraded LS1, I probably have about 80 less rwhp than my previous rotary setup. Once I install the bottle I'll have that covered though. Even with just a set of heads I'll be close. I'm hoping to get the car to trap 118mph on motor with stock heads. No telling what it'll do on the spray. I'll probably start with a 100 shot but ultimately want to run a 150.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'd love to hear your comments.

Put your whipers back on. Rain-X doesn't help in a torrential downpoor, and you never know when you'll be caught.

Other than that, very cool.

You don't want to hear my comments...

J/k B. I think it turned out pretty slick. Nothing I would ever do to my car though.

Don't need the "whippers". Haven't had them for a long time and have been just fine.

Just remember not to drive in any hurricanes!

I said that, because one day I accidentally unplugged the whiper motor, and got caught in a giant rain storm. The Rain-X tried but the volume of water was just too large.

I typically wax the car often and the wind sheild gets a gracious application.

Besides, I don't usually drive the car in the rain. It usually sits in the garage.

I dig it!
LS1 would by choice as well for the next engine in mine.
Do you have a website with the process?
How much are LS1s going for these days?

awwww man, god i envy you! I myself have a 2002 camaro out side with a auto in it just waiting to be stripped (i bought it last year and have been searching constantly for a T56, its a modded cop car too hehe), people in Hawaii want 3k for a T56 without clutch, clutch hydrolic system, ect. I could probally put the auto in if i really wanted to but i dont want an auto (i never want one again, at least not in any car i like to have fun in).

which swap kit did you use? how long did it take you to install everything? did you run in to any unexpected problems? how was the fitment (is it really that close to the hood/frame as they say)?

T56's sell for about 800-1000 here in the 48 states.

I used Hinson's subframe, torque arm, and aluminum drive shaft.

No unexspected problems and the fitment is great. I do still need to hook up the speedometer. I don't think it'll give me too much trouble. Hopefully I'll have time this weekend

I have a few pics. But not a whole lot.

I bought the engine in march I believe. I just had it sitting around. Once I actually started the project in mid june it only took me two months. I had some hold ups with parts and was also sick for about half a month of that time.

check ebay for engine/transmission combo prices.

I really don't see why my positive thread has to be moved to this dark corner.

I was sharing it in the 3rd gen area because I own a 3RD GEN. That's right, it's a 93+ RX-7.

I believe that water injection will keep my engine from detonating, if it doesn't i'm gonna do an engine swap even though im against them. I'll go with a 787B N/A swap for 700 hp 500 TQ.

thanks for listening.
