I have an admission to make.....

I de-souled my car about a month ago....

It was rather bloody, with power steering fluid going everywhere, oh the humanity!

BTW My car only had 67000 miles on it and I bought it for $750

1989 non turbo GXL

shes going to be much happier with a LS1 No offense, I really do like rotaries, but something tells me i will like the amazing power of a v8 more.

DOMINATED!

if you want the power of a v8, buy a corvette...or buy a piece of **** car and drop it in.

Why do people perform this swap? the RX-7 Is known for its unique rotary engine. V8 is just a disgrace to the chassis, and the motor its known for.

ahh to each his own.
i personally could never dishonor my car with such a swap, but if he wants to be just like everyone else on the road that all him, i personally will always love my car for what it is and the dream it represents.
good luck with the swap

Just an observation...
This sort of reaction indicates to me that you guys think that the whole point of the RX is the engine.
Remove the rotary from the equation and what's left?
Well, a pretty, nicely built body with a good suspension/handling package (which is, as a bonus, easily upgradable), a relatively plush interior and all the tax/insurance/registration advantages of an old car.

If removing the engine from the RX merits such disapproval, would installing the same engine in a different car (say, a 240Z) make a vehicle you'd approve?

Edit-
***Smart *** remarks deleted***

You will get more positive affirmations over on the 'other engine' thread and even more over on Torque Central.

good luck.

I think this post is worthless- unless you plan on giving the apparently perfectly 13b you pulled to one of us.

basically its the whole pacage to us, the car is designed around the engine. mazda saw how the engine acted and built the best platform for it. so swapping out the engine gives us a car built for something it no longer has. the only piston engine swap i could see fit would be for an engine with relitivley the same attributes, for example a ca18t. but even then you are losing the soul of the car.

Well, your observation is wrong. I am not opposed to swapping the V-8 into an RX-7, in fact I plan to build one someday.

The problem with this thread is they come up all the time and they are designed to do only one thing, irritate people. Its a waste of 2nd generation technical area bandwidth and if I were a mod, I would lock it.

in that case...
ibtl!

good luck with the swap. i've read good reviews about using the t5 tranny as opposed to the t56. it's supposed to be a lot lighter, and only 5 gears
