is the ls swap good for a drift car?

Yes, bags of torque, better internals are cheap to replace

 

V8 engines are pretty much the norm in formula drift these days, but don't take my word for it...


I'd say poor Kyle Mohan, but he's getting massive Mazda hookups so I can't feel too badly for him.

Well that video was dead on for formula D. As per grass roots events its whatever works for you. Personally, I went with the LT1 setup. As we all know drifting is ******* expensive. So with the LT1 it was a bargain for a power plant, simple to work on, and parts are cheap and readily available. A couple of my friends run LSX swap on their 240s and just change oil. Only prob with a V8 in a RX7 is the torque the mazda rear takes, I snaped way too many stub shafts and got tired of it and went with the Ronin 8.8 IRS conversion. Really excited to see how the ford 8.8 works with drifting. On a side note, was pumped to see that vidoe was shot in NJ, our tent was right behind Ryan Tuerks interview, Thought one of us was about to have a cameo lol.

Hey Joel, my 8.8 converion is about done and cant wait to test it out. How do you think its gonna hold up for drifting? The way i look at it, its meant for the torque and stonger then the stock RX7 diff, so its got to be a upgrade.

 

Should be great. Minimizing wheel hop is a huge deal, the diff itself is notably stronger, and our custom halfshafts come with a lifetime warrantee from our manufacturer. Break one and they replace it no questions asked. Break another and they offer money back and will want to know a more info about your setup.

Effectively, we haven't found the hp limit on our kit and it's been running for a while on some drag cars in the 700 hp range. If someone does manage to break one we'll work with you to get you into a setup that will hold.

 

Ls motors produce a lot of torque, which is wat u need, u just need to have the right suspension set up n a lsd

 

I think its great. And I got my LS1 with a T56 trans for 1,500. Major come up.

 

Wait, you got that for 1500? ****, you can barely get a t56 for that, kind jelous bro. Thats pretty much a buy one get one free

 

Yeah man, my dads shop is constantly buying engines from LKQ so they gave me a great deal.
