I've been doing a lot of research before I start an FD. Ls engine is the obvious choice but theres a lot of hype about the Ford Coyote 5.0 L engines. I've seen the dyno sheets and the powerband is quite impressive. I'm sure someone may have done it but google isn't providing the results for me. Would the dual over head cam fit in an FD? :-/

Ford's newest modular is the smallest of the bunch but it is still considerably wider that the LS series. I can measure the width between the shock towers and frame rails in my 2011 mustang is that is any benefit.

Just for grins I measured the width between the shock towers on my cars. On the 2011 it is ~36" and on my fox mustang it is ~34". Plenty of coyotes have been swapped into fox mustangs. However, they have to switch to a hydroboost brake setup or just run manual brakes. I don't know the clearance between the LS1 and brake booster on an FD, but I suspect it is pretty tight. I doubt there is room there for the added width of the coyote.

Looking at everything, I'm thinking the 2.75" is the differences in sizes of the block. I'm thinking it would be really really hard to fit those massive *** dohc heads on the motor and still close the hood.
Will not happen if you plan on keeping the vacuum assisted brakes. There are also oil pan issues that interfere with the steering rack. Not to mention the weight.
Those numbers HAVE to be bare block. If you look at those pics and pull the heads the 2" difference is believable. Add heads and not a chance.
Those number for the Coyote width are from the external edge of the valve covers. I just measured mine, as best I can since it is in the car, and it looks like 28" wide. That picture is a little deceiving since it is comparing one of the older wider DOHCs with a ford 302. The 302s are only ~20" wide depending on valve covers.
Of course one downside of the Coyote is the MT-82 roulette. Mine is a piece of ****, and all of Ford's TSB have done nothing to improve its shifting. Some people get good ones, but many don't. IMHO you would be better off sourcing a T-56 and a bellhousing from termi cobra.
Well that and the used coyotes are still pretty expensive compared to the LS1/6s.
You can get a Coyote to work in an FC, probably not in an FD. They are gigantic, and the intake may not clear the hood. You have a hard time making FAST intakes on LS1s fit.

The super charged engine is not a coyote, thats a terminator . Coyotes have 2 vct solenoids per head . That is what really makes them special the dual vct allows them to not only advance and retard the cam but overlap as well .
Unfortunately, I don't think these will ever fit. It's not so much the height, but you have roughly 30.5 inches between the towers. Given the width of the Coyote, I think you'd have to go with a tubular front end to make it work properly.
I wish I could get one of the flat plane crank 5.2s ;-)
Did you have to cut any sheet metal at the shock tower area to get the heads to fit in there?
Will you have to cut any to get exhaust manifolds/headers on?
Yes there was a lot of cutting and welding around the shock tower. Mainly near the base where it connects to the frame rail. I am on my third attempt of exhaust manifolds. I tried to make long tube headers but fitting the four 1-7/8th tubes through the small gap where the steering column and starter are is a little tight. Could be done but looked like the header would have to snake around both side of the steering column and don't like the idea of it. I made a set of log manifolds that worked but they there pretty ugly so I am using a set of factory mustang headers that are modified. It is a motor swap of if you need to do engine work the motor has to be pulled.
