he is stating that the tranny mount needs to be cut off, the car I believe not the transmission itself , then you use the grannys transmission subframe (crossmember) to install it.

Built my own mounts

My engine may sit in a slightly different position from those using Grant's mounts, but I only cut a small divot out of the driver side tranny mount to clear the Speedo cable. I welded in a piece of steel tubing to fill the cut. My mount is very crude, patched together using a mixture of the Mazda and Ford parts. I did some grinding to make the Ford speedo cable fit the Mazda speedo, then had an adapter gearbox made to correct the ratio. This has been run over 20,000 miles, no problems.

I had heard that the Ford speedo cable would fit on the Mazda speedometer.

Just curious, couldn't you just change the gear in the tranny to have the speedo indicate the right speed?
thanx

grannys sells a kit to convert the speedo I think its an adapter to attach the mazda cable to the ford tranny and a gear change.

Adapting the Shifter

My donor car was a 1985 Lincoln, which used a cable shifter. I adapted the Mazda automatic shifter, and the only Ford part I used was the fitting off the end of the cable, where it attached to the transmission lever. The AOD was the old style, all mechanical. Assuming yours is electronically controlled, it is a whole different set of issues.

if you want to use the trans in the t-bird, you can remove the electronic speed sensor from the trans and get one from a ford truck (2wd) I think. but that might have an issue with the calibration and tires and such. but it should work.

my donor is a 1984 Merc. so cable on both
