FD LS3 EROD Build Starting!

I just got myself a blown Silver 93 FD for $3000 and am going down the darkside route, with an EROD LS3 motor. The car has 91000 miles, clean title, and looks like it has the upgraded Spirit R brakes. It has 17 "SSR Integrals wheels and is in pretty good shape except the engine is blown, stereo does not work and the tranny has the 5th gear grind. Was debating on swapping out the rear diff, and would be keen to see how other forum is holding up to that much torque? I am looking to make around 475 whp with my set up...after it is smogged and refereed of course. I am planning on the following goodies:

99 Spec Front and Rear
Ohlins Suspension
Samberg Kit
K58 Kinesis Wheels 18x9, 18x10
255/35/18, 285/30/18 Neavo Advans
Aston Martin Storm Black Paint
Racesshop Roll Bar
Front and Rear Alcon Brake Kit (if 99 Spec brakes are not up to some track work)
Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser
HID Kit
Seat upgrade TBD...

I will update this thread as I go along. Thanks guys!

Looks like you have yourself a nice project! As far as the diff, I recommend leaving it and adding one of these:
https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-center-69/tweakit-racing-differential-brace-952898/

I've been tracking my car for over a year now with the mazda diff without issue. Given I don't have 475rwhp, there was also another LS2 FD with 480rwhp that also ran the stock diff without issue. It's just once less thing you have to spend money on and I like the diff characteristics alot more than the cobra's.

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your progress. Are you familiar with www.norotors.com ?

Hello Brent,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am checking out Norotors and will probably post up over there as well. Good to hear that the stock diff should be ok for what I plan on doing with the car as it saves $3000 on this build. Are you running the 4.11 or 3.90 with your T56? How are the gear speeds/mph with your set up and will 6th gear actually pull, or is it really only a moonshot overdrive for freeway economy? Thanks!

It's great quality, that is what I am running. My only complaint was the radiator/intake pushes against my hood a bit lifting one side. I am sure it can be fixed, I hvent really messed with it yet.

Thanks for the reply. It seems that is an issue with the Samberg kit with a few people? Does he have a fix for that in the works?? I am starting to get my stuff together and am debating painting before or after my swap is done...

I thought this issue was fixed in the new revision. Why don't you call Samberg?

Will do. Anyone have experience with that Shine Auto street diffuser? Looking to update the looks of the car with one an wanting to see if there were any feedback on quality? Thanks.

Thxbrett,
Have you looked into getting this smogged afterwards? Will CARB pass a EROD motor?

Brett- so are you going thru with this or staying rotary?

LMK if you need a T56. I have a few of them rebuilt ready for sale.

Samberg makes nice stuff. His Kmember is the one to get for sure. The radiator/intake kit is nice as well if you can't make your own. If you made your own.... it'll never look as good as his setup. Truly work of art.

I am researching this now, but it looks like the EROD will pass smog. If it doesn't then I will look at a cheaper pull out from a 2010 Camaro....

I did some googling and found this - http://www.motoiq.com/projects/proje...a_v8_rx-7.aspx

So apparently the correct erod ls3 motor is CARB approved.

Hey Mark,

Yes I am going the V-8 route and yanking the dead rotary out of the car. I will hit you up when I need the T56. Thanks!

Forgot to check this. I'm running the 4.10 in mine and it works well for me. 3.9 I'm sure would work well too. For speed calculations on gears, use this:

Thanks for the link. I think I will stick with the 4.10's for now.

Just got my Rotary keys cut today and they look great! Got the Antique and Chrome finishers. I just ordered a set of 99 tail lights and have my stereo equipment en route as well. Alpine system for the car, 6.5 component speakers up front, 6x8's for the rear. Hooking that up to a Alpine 4 channel amp and still looking at a few head units. Not sure about a double din or not... Got my paint for the car as well...damn expensive for 2 quarts at $750! Yikes! Anyway I will update this thread again when I have more goodies. Getting ready to order the Samberg kit shortly.

Got new custom mats from Jason in the group buy, nice quality and well cut. My Ohlins have arrived and I am looking at getting the Samberg kit next month. Still looking at CD players but I think I will just go with the Alpine CDA-117 unit which seems like a decent quality player. Not sure if I will sell my 17 " SSR Integrals or keep them as they may be useful for track days.

Yesterday I had the chance to look up close at some 2010 camaro ls3 stock exhaust manifolds and the cats.. there are two for each bank. They are pretty skinny though and I bet they would fit an FD pretty well if you're going to take it to the ref. The ones that come with the erod kit look pretty much the same! Good luck, if I had the $$$ that's the route I would have gone with my car.
