Engine Change
I currently own a Rx-7 Turbo 2 1987 Mazda. I was thinking about putting in a small block 350 engine in and change the transmission to an auto because with that much HP, manual is annoying. My car is not running at the moment and I'm not sure if I just want to buy a new rotary engine because of the small life spam that they have. What do you guys think?

get your motor rebuilt and ported (assuming its not running due to an actual seal failure and not being out of gas or missing the afm).
And what kind of built 350 crate motor are you talking about dropping in? Cause LS7's come mated to manual transmissions and I haven't heard too many vette owners whining about how "annoying" it is.

i think you're in the wrong board.
and yea,the horsepower numbers are retarted high on stock 350 motors.for example a 350 from a corvette that was made in the late 80's made 250 to the crank.while S5 T2's made 200 from a 80cid.that's such a big difference you'll need an auto to keep all the power you have.

I've never seen the rhyme or reason in dropping in a huge power plant when you can have a small power plant that costs less, and for the amount you can put into the huge one and all the parts to get 300-400 HP, you could probably get 500 from the right rotary.
Oh yea, and it'll weigh less.
How could you call a manual "annoying" ??

I wish my car was a manual. I'm going to make it one after I get a tranny for it.
Going with an auto your going to cost yourself a lot of money to make it robust enough to use the HP you want to shove in there, so you might as well have a manual if you really wanna use it.
My advice, goto the edge of your reality, learn a thing or two, and have a lot of fun.
Go rotary engines and manual trannies!

I think that engine's still good, something else popped. Maybe it needs a new gasket.

ok guys the thing is that i can get the engine dfor about 700. I can buy a the small block 350 engine form a junkyard for about a hundred and use the rest of the money for engine repair. I'm goign to rebuild it top to bottom. I'm also going to tweak my transimission so it will act like a stick shift car. I don't need a stick shift for a high HP because i'll need to shift way to fast. and i want my car to be a everyday car but still kick some *** when it needs to. the pricing is amazing. alot of epople use too much money on what they want and can get. My engine has 160,000 miles on it so i need to change it for sure and the v8 is low maintenance. Thanks for the reply guys.
