Costs of LS1 swapping?

What sort of prices are people spending for their LS1 swaps? I am hoping to be able to do a complete swap with a budget of 4000 dollars which should include the purchese of the engine and transmission, wiring harness, pcm and the mounting kit from Grannys and the little things that i am forgetting.

Good luck even getting the powertrain for that price... LS1/T56 combo prices are rising faster than gas $6,000 might be a more reasonable budget... Even the auto equipped LS1's would require a lot of skimping and parts hunting to get near your budget.

Heck, you can buy a 2000 LS1 Camaro for $5,000.

You could probably do an LT1 swap with that budget, but an LS1 you should expect to drop some more on the engine. Assuming you already had a well modified/cared for car that you're starting off with (i.e. that has not been sitting in a field.)

I dont think you could do everything right for less than $5,000 + cost of the car.

I looked up all the parts I wanted and I would have ended up spending about $6,500 on a LS1 swap.

I spent about 10k on my swap, but I factored in paint/body work, some suspension stuff, engine upgrades, new clutch/sensors/intake manifold, good solid cooling system, lots of new parts.

I got some good deals on the engine/transmission and only paid 700 for the car and had already brought it up to a well maintained (and oiled, unintentionally ) with the rotary engine.

$8k to do it right IMO. This is for an FD. Less if you can find some smoking deal on a powertrain. Much less if you are doing an FC where the mounting equipment is far simpler.

I looked for an engine for 3 months...and the cheap ones I found were not worth it. I got an 18K mile LS1/T56 out of a 2002 Camaro Z28 for $5000 shipped to my door. It came with everything and I considered that a good deal. I think it still is.
