Cost and difficulty of LS1/LS6 swap

I've searched a little bit regarding this topic, but I was wondering how costly and difficult the swap was for you V8 7 owners. I love the rotary engine, but I'm looking for a powerful car with no quirks that isn't as loud as the day is long, and is also reliable at about 500HP. Thanks. :flamesuit on:

Check the forum dedicated for this kind of thing. The FC tech section isn't filled with V8 loving guys.....

There's a forum specifically for piston swaps, I'd suggest searching and reading around in there. I'm gonna move your thread over there too for the more knowledgeable people in that "area" to help you.

Cost has been discussed ad naseum over at torquecentral. Figure $8k-$10K for the swap if you're doing the work yourself, maybe less since it's a 2nd gen, though not by much. You can always shave some off here and there, but there can be tons of hidden costs. Most people end up having to address their suspension and tire situation to help put the power to the ground, which just adds to the pile. You should try to patiently part out all your rotary stuff to help offset the cost.

500rwhp is also no cakewalk. You'll need a power adder of some sort (nitrous is the cheapest route, but once the bottles dry...), or you'l have to run a really nasty cam with headers and some really aggressively ported heads. Plan on the pursuit of 500 hp costing you at least another $4K if you want to do it without a power adder, potentially more is you want to turbo or supercharge. If your car is a daily driver, or you plan to drive it on the street all the time you'll get tired of a superhigh lift, lumpy idle, surging at parking lot speeds, aggressive cam.

Anyhow, welcome to our little area of the world. If you haven't registered and poked around over at Torquecentral you should. There's lots of info and people willing to help over there. Good luck.
