Cost Breakdown!
Cost Breakdown!
Alright people, the reason I'm posting this thread is simply because I'm sick and tired of reading through threads that turn into arguments and I just want straight unbiased answers for once.So here goes,I'm currently looking into an Ls-"X" swap as I contemplate what motor I will be putting into my fc this time around.I have the option of going with a heavily ported motor and a big turbo+full standalone. That is the path I'm heading towards. Now,I am curious about the cost of the ls and if the after market parts I have now can be used for that swap.
I want to know exactly what parts I need for the swap.
In my car I currently have:
a Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump
HKS Intake Filter
Koyo S4 Rad
everything else appears to be only usable on a rotary.I'll post a complete list if necessary.
Give me a list.Not your opinions,not why I should buy a vette,not why the rotary is superior,no.There are a hundred other threads for that.Give me a list+prices.
Do not include cost of labour.

Hinson mounting kit 373.00
Hinson driveshaft 275.00
Hinson cooling system 600.00
Aeromotive FPR 150.00
LS1 wiring harness modification 325.00
Tailshaft modification for speedo to function 425.00 or you could go buy a speedo and not use the factory one.
You will need tools like a die grinder, dremel, torch etc. It would be wise to replace the clutch which could cost you anywhere from 400.00 to 2k. It all depends on how far you want to go with this project. Oh and you can use your walbro...lol
I forgot to add that you will need a camaro accelerator cable, you can get that from any GM dealership for about 35 bucks. You will need to weld a 1.5' extension to the gas pedal assembly. You will also need a new clutch master cylinder, you can get that for 78.00. Dont forget you will need to do some cutting. The shifter hole, radiator support and trans mounts all need to be cut off the body of the car. Here's a pic of the shifter hole after I was finished.
Wow, that pretty much covers it!
I like seeing full break downs like this, gives you a much better idea of what it will take. Not really my kind of conversion, but I like what yourve done, looks really well done.

hinson also sells a CableX speedometer driver. I'm using it to drive my stock speedo. its fully programmable, which is good, but its also voltage dependant, so mine lags on full throttle. its accurate while cruising, so i guess thats what matters. it was 280 when i bought it. prolly still the same. other than that, all the stock guages work. thats kinda nice. i didnt want to put aftermarket garbage in my interior.
hinson's cooling system is way too expensive and doesnt work that well. i did it with a summit radiator and homemade brackets, but jagsthatrun.com has a kit for FCs. its not on their site, but if you call them they'll tell you all about it. JTR is an awesome company. use a early 90's taurus fan. it flows better than any aftermarket fan i've seen and cost me 9 bucks on ebay.
you can use a C4 corvette driveshaft (40 bucks maybe?) and weld on a chrysler flange (25?).
last i checked brismo (v8rx7forum.com) was doing harnesses for like 125. there are others too who do it.
it'll take some looking but some guy has a parts like for the fuel lines (maybe 100 altogether).
basically, i would buy as little as possible from hinson. just the engine and tranny mounts. nothing against him, its just that you can get everything else way cheaper.
try talking to Eat-Pez. as far as i know hes a nice guy, and he knows all the shortcuts to save money.

I have an S4 Specific FPR with fuel lines, would I be able to use that? And I'm curious to know if the stock Ecu can be wired up to the s4 harness with everything functioning? And can I use my Rad with custom Fabricated mounts?
the 99up corvette fuel filter is an integrated pressure regulator, so thats a common solution. two birds with one stone.
the ls1 needs 58psi so if your fpr can deliver that than im sure it'll work.
with stock mounting, the bottom of the radiator is too close to the engine. you'll have to mount it vertically up againts that round beam thing. if your current rad fits there, then sure. otherwise you'll have to cut the body some or buy a smaller rad.
