If anyone is still watching, I'm waiting for wheels. Still. When I grab them I'll grab the B+ long *** cable, my tranny fluid, a c-clip for the U-joint, and then magic will occur. I hope. Please. Oh god why.

Thanks Diamond Racing Pro Series 15x8, 4" backspace, I had some more space to work with in the rear but not the front, so it's flares time, and I think that will complete the look nicely. The wheels took 6 months but they sure do look decent...

 

Does it drive on the street yet?

Wow! This is the first time I am posting in this thread and I just read through the whole thing and I am so impressed and happy right now.
Great Job so far man, I have an 85 FB w/ 12a and I have been doing some homework on how to do the same swap, but prolly run a carb.

I have a couple questions.

- How does the T5 transmission line up with the stock shifter hole? Im not sure if the hole cutout from your previous video was stock or altered any.

- Also, are you glad you stuck with Fuel Injection and didn't go carb. I know the ups and downs of both but what is your imput?

If I do this swap I want my stock hood to close. I have seem some 5.0 carb swaps with good amounts of clearance between the air cleaner and hood. Scroll through this thread quickly, http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread.php?t=102146 its basically exactly what I want to do.

Thanks for the kind words, The shifter lined right up without the hole needing any modification, and carb would have saved me some time and probably around 500 bucks to maybe 1000 but I really like the benefits of FI and I wasn't sure if I carb would be right for the canyons I plan to drive, lots of uphill/downhill lumps bumps etc. Honestly, do whatever you're more comfortable with, I'll need a hole in my hood no bones about it but seeing that rpm II manifold stick out is just epic and badass so I don't mind. Any other questions feel free to ask

 

Alright sweet! Yeah that intake looks mean, Im loving your car man and the wheels are so sick too. The 4x110 pattern sucks but what are you gonna do.

When I got my car last year I put an oem fuel pump that was $150 from autozone (shoulda went aftermarket) and dont rele want to buy another one with the swap. Grannys Speed shop says it will be efficient for carb swap, but its rated for 3-4 psi when ford recommends 7-8 psi. But we'll see when the time comes.

Also If I go carb, cant I literally just take the starter wire from the ignition switch and tie it into the ford starter? and take the ignition-to-coil wire from the mazda and tie it into the ford coil and basically have a running motor? (Fuel, Alternator and accessories aside)

The wiring intimidates me but ive reading schematics and basically researching this stuff is all I do when im bored at work.

I wouldn't choose setups just based on a fuel pump, but if you really want to then your build lols.

Wiring for a starter is dead simple in either case, I fabbed up that circuit in 30 minutes an it works great. Grannys does a guide on how to integrate the 5.0 efi wiring into the stock chassis wiring if you have it all with you.

I basically used the stock engine harness and ecu and wired in everything else, including the MAF conversion, it's scary but once you get into it it's not so hard, just tedious sometimes. Coil wiring is also easy so don't worry about that.

Make sure however that if you go EFI or carb even you do some reading up, carb sizing and manifold choice is important and so is MAF/ECU selection if you go EFI. Of course I could run my mouth off about performance mods all day but in the end you're spinning the spanners...

 

Oh no my build would not be built entirely around a fuel pump for sure, it was just a thought.

I know carb and manifold setups are important and when I do start building I would like to get a mild cam for that lopeyness. Ill probably keep stock heads too unless I get a good deal but hey im talking my *** off over here because I don't even have a motor or tranny yet!! But once I do that's it, ill be committed and the swap will happen.

Anyway tho, your car is awesome and looking forward to some more updates.

Another quick question, sorry im a posting happy noob but how does the clutch slave cylinder bolt up to the bell housing? It doesn't just hang down there right? It would seem it needs to be mounted some how so it can pull on the fork but curious how you did it.

Also does the little heim joint / rod sticking out on the opposite side of the slave attach to anything or do you just run the hydraulic line from the clutch master cylinder to the center line attachment on the slave and thats it?

When you get a chance a picture would be great.

 

No problem with asking, I'm glad you're taking an interest. You're right, the end of the slave pull does attach to the fork but that was dead easy, it was the other side that took some work, and i had to grind down the bellhousing too.

I'll take a video tomorrow and do an update, it's been too long and things are pretty cash at this point, and I'll make sure to include that in the vid.

JEGS Performance Products 52017 JEGS Universal Aluminum Radiators

I believe it to be that one, but it could have been one of the other widths, maybe the 26" but it's that style of jegs alum, if you want to be extra sure just measure yourself and see what you think. Making the bracket was an interesting proposition, but happened to work out. The rad would not fit vertically, or at least I didn't see any way to do it.

 

Still a few things to do, but coming along...
