The only thing that is stupid is to be infuenced by the idiots on this forum who will criticise anything you do.

I considered using an FD for my project, even found one with a dead motor for only $5k, but I am too tall and just don't fit into the FD. Furthermore, it is a very complex car, and the swap will inevitably be more complicated and expensive than using an earlier car. However, the 5.0 Ford is readily available, cheap, reliable, and has easily the same or better power and much more torque than the stock FD engine. I have never seen it done, so I don't know about the mounting issues. You will need to investigate the crossmember and the oil pan options for possible interference.

With aluminum heads, intake, radiator and water pump, the 5.0 will add very little weight to your car. Everyone seems to favor the later GM engines, but the Ford is a good alternative choice if you are trying to keep it low budget.

My 84 GSL conversion will never handle like an FD, but I have had fun driving it for 4 years.

its stupid cause the 5.0 has no more potential than a stock FD motor. put a 5.0 in an FC or FB. LSx or better should be the only FD swaps. With a $5k roller, your budget should be so low to do a 5.0!
even a crazy early SBC with blower would be cool

yes, this was my point. i was just more blunt and rude. the FD deserves better than such an underpowered overweight turd (comparatively). the LSx blows it away in just about every category. for a cheap FB or FC project, for for it. but for an FD, make it worth your while.

You are seriously underrating the 5.0 boys, a 347 stroked and properly built 5.0 with a mexican block is an easy 500 to 600 hp without power adders, it is smaller and weighs a lot less that a SBC, because you don't like it doesn't make it stupid, sorta sounds like the rotorheads sledging V8 conversions, dont you think....

well then its not a 5.0 anymore. If he was going to do that he would have said, "im think about a stroked 6liter ford motor", not "any ideas on a 5.0 in FD"... any motor can be great, but for the expense of the FD to start with, your better off starting with a ls platform, if you wanna talk about stroked motors then what is the LS with stroker kit... etc... No one really knocked the 5.0 for anything other than go better with FD or use the 5.0 in FB or FC.

There was a smokin' black FD on ebay last year that had a totally built 5.0 under the hood with a vortech. It ran 10s.
