86 BASE FC, 305 holley 5speed swap

I am in need of some opinions. This car has been for sale about 35 min from my house for almost 4 months now. Ive been talking to the guy and found out the the engine and trans were from an 87' IROC camaro that was previously TPI (stock rated hp at 210) and converted to carb. His wifes uncle built the car about 5 years ago and they have been driving it ever since. Just this year it developed a fuel/carb problem and he said he hasnt had time to look into and has decided to sell it. It will start up and idle, but will bog when you give it gas. It was originally listed for $3500. He says everything works other than the fuel/carb issue and it is able to be driven around a bit to "test" it out.

Here is the info taken straight from the CL ad:

Car is not running rite...stalls out.....its as is where it is,you can start it and drive it around the big parking lot there to make sure everything is working good besides the stalling out.DONT TEXT OR CALL ME ASKING WHATS WRONG WITH IT IF I KNEW IT WOULD BE FIXED I DONT HAVE TIME TO MESS WITH THE CAR.AND I WONT RESPOND TO REDICULOUS OFFERS. .

__________________________________________________ _______________

The rust is on the middle of the door right by the seam. It isnt through yet, but its bubbled up a bit. No other rust, no dents, fresh -ish paint. The interior isnt horrible, but it has seat covers on it so I'm assuming that they are ripped. The interior is maroon.

My questions:

1. Does anyone have any idea at all what to expect as far as gas mileage? Of course it will need to have the carb fixed first.

2. What do you think this thing would be worth after it was fixed up? I am working on getting pics up too.

Thank you for your help, Ive never even though of a v8 FC until today... I'm a 12a FB guy (ive had 4) lol Even if you cant answer my questions or anything, can you at least give me your opinions?

I would guess 18ish highway maybe low 20s, probably not worth a bunch more than that, say 4-5k fixed? I would hop on it though if you want some cheap thrills, seems like a decent deal for an issues that's probably not too hard to fix...

The specs on the IROC indicate mpg of 15 city and 22 hwy, 18 overall. The test was done with an automatic. It will get more because it's a five speed, less because it's now carbed, and less because of the difference in rear end ratio - 3.08 or 3.45 for the Chevy vs 4.1 for the 7. I'd be surprised if you average any better than 15 or so. The transmission could have a 0.63 fifth gear, which could give you another 2 mpg. I agree with the previous poster regarding value once it's fixed.

That's FC people for you, the swap alone cost him at least 1k and that's a nice list of parts plus of course the cost of the car. Maybe you could come in at 2500 but less than that is just getting lowball. True the 305 is not the end-all be-all in terms of grunt but it sure is cheap to run and with some boost would crank. If you're not feeling it then you could always swap in a biggie motor as the provisions are already there.

As it sits, this swap is simply a mediocre engine in a mediocre chassis. Yes it took money and effort, but as with any car, you never get your money back when selling it. I have no idea what your local market is like, but I don't see it selling for more than $3k after you're done fixing it.
Asking each rx7 and norotor is going to give you a biased opinion, so I'd say average the two.
If you're looking for a toy to play with for a while, it would be pretty fun. But I really don't think it is anything impressive.
-225ish hp, carb driveability
-Drivetrain that is meant for an engine putting out 100 lb-ft of torque
-Singe piston brake system
-20ish mpg tops
-Maroon interior
-Cheap to fix the engine
-Paint needing repair

And who replaces just the front shocks? Did the fronts go over a lot more bumps than the back ones?

I have a simular build and bought mine for 2400 but fixed a lot... My car was sluggish but I believe it was the carb. Not for sure I ripped the engine and tranmy out of mine and sold it for my bullet proof setup I had in my trans
