Conversion kit, Obviously, grannies sucks, but who else?

I need conversion kits! Obviously Granny's sucks from the other threads in here, BUT, I still need one for a 1st gen, and thats the only place I can find that has them.

Im probably going to drop an LS1 or a 350 into it, and not sure what kind of tranny yet, but I'm stalled until I find the kits

can anyone help?

Bad Info

Grant has definitely had problems with his 3rd gen kits, but I think you are getting bad info if you think his 1st and 2nd gen kits are not satisfactory. Just read some of the writeups from his customers on the web site. You can save yourself a lot of work by using his engine and tranny mounts, radiator, headers and driveshaft, plus the adapters that allow your oil pressure and temp sensors to screw into your Ford or Chevy block.

I built all my own stuff because I had mine mostly done before Grant started selling Ford kits. But if I were starting now, I would definitely use his kit.

I got my 2nd gen stuff within 3 days. I was actually out of town and hoping he would delay it a couple days, but it was sitting at my house waiting for me when I came home. For a first gen I think you'd be golden.

Digitalsolo is running the granny's SBC cradle kit with ls1 adapter plates in his ls1 FC, and no problems.

Now, grant has revamped the ls1 kit. I ordered a set and I will definitely let everyone know how it goes with my ls1 FC using granny's.

The grant reputation was when he had bad service a few years ago, when he pretty much was the only company offering mount kits. From what I hear now, he's done a u-turn from his old ways.

I think someone said it best a while back here on this forum: Grannys has the 1st gen kits down to a science. I believe as Stilletto has said above, that Grants probs came about with the LS1 kits, and probly what I will chalk up as growing pains. Sometimes, when you own your own business, it can overtake you so to speak. But I havn't heard any more bad stuff about them in a long while. I talked to the guys down in Orlando who have built both a sbc and sbf 1st gens and they have had excellent results with the kits they bought. I told them that I was concerned about all the negative publicity Grant was getting over here and at Torquecentral, but they told me not to worry, the 1st gen stuff works great.
I am still saving to buy my kit, takes awhile with a family of 6, so I can't tell you first hand, just going by what I have been told.

Later,
Bill

Me and LT110-AE both used Grannys kits for our LT1 FC's. They showed up from litterally the opposite end of the lower 48 (North Washington State to FL) in about 5 days for both of us. I used Grants cradel, driveshaft, clutch master, and a few other things. The cradel fit with minor clearancing and very little heartache.

Yup, another Granny's cradle here. I'm one of very few people that have used him for LS1 setups (I believe either RX-Ben or NyToy is the only other that I'm aware of), but I've had very little issues with it, just some minor clearancing that could probably be chocked up to tweaks in my RX7's chassis.

I've ordered from him on three seperate occasions for different parts and everything was shipped when he said it would, and he was honest on parts with delays (My driveshaft flange was out of stock when I ordered, and he was up front about it). He's not super-responsive to emails though. Sometimes he replies 2-3 days later, sometimes right away, and on a couple of occasions he didn't reply at all. Nothing major enough to worry me about doing business with him though. I've had much worse luck on this forum then I've had anywhere else when it comes to buying products.

I used the Granny's sbc 1st gen kit and was pleased how well it went together. In 30+years I have found many after market & performance pieces need tweaking or out right reworkingto the point I have wondered why I bought it in the first place. That was not the case for the Granny's kit. The 1st gen kit and instructions were better then I hoped. I am in Canada and the shipping was fast. When I called about headers I was told they were on back order and he didn't know when they might be available and not to order. I found a decent used set off this site so the problem was aleviated.
