IA 6.1 liter Hemi RX7?

I have heard of everything from little 4 cyl's all the way up to big ls6's being swapped into rx7's, but i haven't ever seen anyone talk about or perform a hemi swap. Im not talking about a classic carb'd hemi. I am talking about one from a new 300c, charger, or magnum. Any info or ideas anyone would have about taking a hemi out of a mashed up 300c and swapping it into a rx7, please respond

Just to tell you, it's not going to be very easy to perform at all. You will need to fab custom engine and transmission mounts just to start with since no aftermarket company produces them. Also, you're going to need essentially the entire electrical setup from the Hemi, and there's quite a bit of **** to grab. The Hemi has a pretty deep emissions control system as well as being a multiple displacement engine and is also coil-over plug as well as being throttle by wire. Working around all of these things is going to take a lot of head-scratching. The reason I say this is because I work for a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership and work on these vehicles every day. It'll be a pretty daunting task to perform.

+1. That and the method of dropping ls's into a 7 has been done for several years now and has a pretty good backing of available parts prefabbed and ready to go. Plus you can buy crate motors from GM for relatively cheap compared to a newer Hemi with all of the latest technology that Ice just mentioned on it.

Also, I forgot to mention probably the major thing. The Hemi uses serial buses to control many of the functions on the vehicle. I can tell you without a doubt you will be in over your head when it comes to trying to wire this thing. For the money you will end up having into this swap you could have had a 3 rotor turbo setup or a nice LSx motor setup that would stomp a Hemi setup. I'm pretty sure the 6.1 engine alone would be at least 10,000 dollars, considering it only comes in the SRT8 vehicles. The 5.7 would be more realistic, but still very pricey. Also, there aren't a ton of these vehicles in the junkyards with all the pieces you'd need. More than likely the harnesses would have already been removed or cut from the vehicle if you were to find one.

There's no point. There is not much out there for aftermarket support. You would honestly be better off TRYING to find a 392 Hemi from an older Chrysler 300 from the 60's. Which by the way, is very hard to get, and very expensive last time I checked.

I know that razorback was doing a 383 swap, but I don't think it's done still to this day. I could be wrong.

That be very interesting to see and to drive such kind of engine in a rx, but i think there will be some issue in putting such large engine.

I was just searching for something like this. has this been done yet. I just so happen to have a 5.7 Hemi motor, harness, tranny, and well everything sitting around with 20k miles on it. How much would it cost to make this work?

I say do it. Most people on this board are tooooo lazy and not willing to try something new. Back when this ls1 swaps started, people said why. You have to fab mounts and rewire the harness too. It can be done!!! The hemi has more torque and horse power than the ls1 from factory. Yes the hemi is heavier , but its a different alternative. This will be my next project when i get a shell.
Thanks Robert

i was thinking of that swap but a 5.7 cuz the engine, trans, wiring harness, and ecu are going on ebay for like 1200 bux, but i wouldnt want an auto so to make it any fun you would have to put some kind of tranny behind it, fab your cross members and tranny mount and have a driveshaft made plus all the other odds and ends that you dont have avail in the aftermarket, and by that time its pretty much the same as swapping in an ls1 but about 3-5000 more than an ls1 swap, id do the hemi swap but i dont think it would b rewarding in the long run... i hate gm and love mopar but i still probably wouldnt do the swap jus imo...but if you have the time, money, patience, and resources go for it cuz i would love to c it done
