4.30 GTUs rear or 4.10 vert rear for 5.0 swap (both lsd)

topic

I was thinking to stick with the 4.30 rear because of the type of driving I'm more likely to be doing, which is southern pennsylvania / northern baltimore-county backroads, but I don't know if the engine will like running higher than 3000rpm for cruising.

I guess I'm asking how easy is it to swap out 5th gear for a lower numerical one in a T5 tranny.

Unless you're wanting to run at 4K RPM the whole time, a 4.10 would be your best bet. Technically an auto 3.90 would be even better if you're talking about staying with a 7" ring gear.

I can't imagine you needing or wanting 4.30s with a V8. Anything with a V8 and gears that short usually has 40"+ tires on it and is 4WD.

You'd get good $$ out of a GTUs diff and that could buy you a 4.10 from a TII or a 3.90 ring and pinion from an auto FD.

You could always keep the rear you have to try it out, it's already in the car isn't it? If so, it wouldn't cost any more to swap it later than it would to do now.

Ok. I guess you don't want me to mention that it'll be easier to do the rear when it's warm this summer than right now when it's 27 degrees?

Hey Suds, I've seen people blast these N/A rear ends with some nice tires, I even have some pics of them being torn in half by torque.

I reccomend you upgrade to the turbo diff, Its not like I have two of them sitting around or anything :p

I still reccomend you try the rear you've got and see how it is, and since you've got a 4.10 rear in your car already, and SERIOUSLY those things are worth only about $50, I'd TRY to break it

All vert rears are 3.90 and they aren't LSD... I'd say stick to the TII rear...

But you can swap the 7" LSD into the 3.90 rear.

Oh and do you have a GTUs rear? I'll trade you a TII LSD for it!

I have a '90 GTUs (the rare one) that was molested of it's diff by the previous owner...
