With a small block how much RWHP can the GSL rear handle before she's gonna *****.

For those with actual experience with small block engines please.

My friend's GSL-SE rear end breaks regularly with 300WHP and slicks at the track, and that is with a turbo rotary (way less torque). So, if you're planning on having good traction and good power at the same time, with drag launches, then you'll need to go to something beefier. I believe someone sells a kit to drop in a 9"... that's what I heard, anyway.

there is a guy over on toque central with a 383 SBC running mid to low 12's all day long on a stock LSD Rear end in his 83 FB. V8's are better for the rear end then rotarys. simply cuz you have much more low end torque, you dont have to rev to 9k RPMs and drop the clutch, thats why your buddy keeps on breaking his.

my FB, anything more than 1/4 throttle, and i just start smoking the tires.

I think it's more that he is hooking up well with slicks... with street tires on he never breaks anything.

what I'm saying is that I don't think the RPM matters.. what matters is how much torque goes through the driveshaft, how much grip there is, and how jerky the power delivery is.

I had a friend with a ~275hp TII motor in his FB, he couldn't get the rear ends to last long with heavy usage. They would get noisy and then self destruct.

Depends if you are useing an auto or a manual trans as well... www.grannysspeedshop.com is a good place to find info on that.

If youre circut racing you wont be loading it like a clutch dump on slicks at a drag strip would.

In other words... dont worry, unless you DO dragrace.
