383 stroker in an FB...

i'm pretty much fed up with this rotary crap, and i have a nice FB with no motor now, thanks to a spun bearing after 1500 miles and 0 friggin abuse, and atkins telling me it was my fault the bearing spun, so i am getting a 383 stroker, getting it for free, its in a 4x4 truck right now, gonna need a transmission, rocker arms, rods, intake manifold, distributor(probly going HEI), and a carb... selling my 6 port racing beat holley 600cfm, so that will offset the cost some.. whats a good transmission to go with? i prefer manual, but if i can't find a good at least 4 speed manual, i'll probly go with a 700R4... or a TH350 lockup... really would like to do a little better on the highway, so a 3 speed is out of the question... anyways, probly gonna go with a holley 650 double pumper initially, but eventually make the switch to megasquirt... dunno what i'm gonna do about headers, but i'll figure that out...was gonna use the granny's kit, unless theres something else recommended... the 280-300 dollar kit... any suggestions? oh yeah and have a driveshaft made... fun times for everyone...

383 swap

I have a Holley Street Avenger 675 that would be ideal to get you going, brand new about 18 months ago, ran about 4000 miles, just like new, working perfectly, and I will sell it cheap.

I may also be able to help with exhaust and a few other bits. I am in Carnation, East of Seattle. I recommend the automatic tranny for sure - you will want both hands on the wheel!

Send me a PM if interested.

Overdrive

Manual or auto, don't even consider a tranny without overdrive - mine has the 2:3 (.667) ratio Ford AOD tranny, and I am still turning 2400 at 60 in overdrive. With all the torque you will have, even that would be pretty high revs. Some of the Tremec 6 speed manuals have 1:2 (.50) overdrive, but they are pricey even on the used market. Probably pay for itself in fuel if you drive much.

The only part I used from Grannys for mine was the driveshaft adapter flange. I fabbed everything else myself. Did you read the details on my conversion?

I would sell my carb for $200.

Depending on the motor I prolly wouldn't use a T5 trans, especially if it's putting out good power.
