i wouldn't personally touch a 305... the 2 vehicles i've had with one have been so gutless... 350 all the way(cept i don't particularly condone v8 swaps anyways

yeah i mean it felt good in his camaro but i want hp not just tq. im thinking ill still go wit the ford cause its a lot easier to do and ill have to buy less crap to get it in there but the free motor has such a good ring to it even though it needs a rebuild

There were several different Camaro 305's in 1985. None of them were all THAT potent, but in an RX7 none would be that slow either. As mentioned, it's gravy to pull out a 305 and install a 350, especially if it's a carbureted version. I'd go with the motor you feel most comfortable with, because unless you have a solid running motor you won't ever want to mess with, you're bound to make some changes anyway. You should price out the differences in transmissions and the other parts you'll need to make the swap as well. Rebuilding a 305 isn't free but it's pretty cheap - maybe cheaper than finding the other Ford parts you need to go with the 302.

Good luck.
